Nokia launches range of devices at CES

Telecompaper writes…At the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nokia introduced several new devices: the Nokia N76, the N800, Nokia 6131 NFC phone, and the Nokia N93i. Furthermore, Nokia introduced a range of Bluetooth headsets.

Speaking at the CES, Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo shared the company’s vision of converged and multimedia devices. Kallasvuo said that single purpose devices are becoming less attractive with converged devices taking their place. Kallasvuo added that more than 850 million people use a Nokia mobile phone. In 2006, the company sold about 140 camera-phones and almost 70 million music-enabled devices worldwide. Nokia has signed agreements with several internet companies such as with Six Apart to make its blogging service Vox available on mobile devices. With Skype, the company will develop mobile Skype services for the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet which will be launched at the end of H1. Nokia also supports Yahoo! Go services. The CEO further highlighted the company’s cooperation with US operator Sprint Nextel on WiMAX services in the US.

Nokia introduced a trimmer fold model to its Nokia N-Series line up, the Nokia N76. The Nokia N76 multimedia computer features media playing capabilities and supports Windows Media DRM. The device further comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera, a 2.4 inch screen which can be used in landscape mode, microSD support. The device allows users to surf the internet and use Nokia Mobile Search and uses the Symbian OS S60 software. The device is expected to ship in Q1 and will be priced at approximately EUR 390.

The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet features stereo audio support, media playing capabilities, full screen finger qwerty keyboard, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, an integrated web camera, Navicore software, RealNetworks Rhapsody music support, and in the near future a Skype application. The device runs on Linux and is commercially available now in the US and in selected markets in Europe for about EUR 399.

The company also launched the Nokia N93i, a compact digital camcorder and multimedia computer in one. Integrated into the Nokia N93i is Six Apart’s personal video and photo blogging service called Vox. The device supports WLAN, 3G (WCDMA 2100 MHz), EDGE and GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) and allows users to surf the internet and make mobile calls. The Nokia N93i, which is based on S60 3rd Edition software on Symbian OS, is expected to start shipping in volumes during the first quarter of 2007 with an estimated sales price of approximately EUR 600.

Nokia also launched its NFC handset, the Nokia 6131 NFC phone. The Nokia 6131 NFC handset includes Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, a 1.3 megapixel camera, FM stereo radio, Bluetooth, and microSD support. The Nokia 6131 NFC phone is expected to be available in select markets during the first quarter for approximately EUR 260.
