P1 deploys Juniper edge router
Juniper Networks, a Network solutions vendor has announced that Packet One Networks (P1), Malaysian WiMAX provider has deployed its MX series universal edge routers, creating a new high-speed, service-enabling MPLS core network.
According to P1′s CEO, Michael Lai, to deliver the full benefits of 4G WiMAX to their customers and maximize revenue opportunities, it is essential to have a highly stable core network. The deployment of Juniper Networks MX Series routers helps to monetize their 4G network by accelerating service delivery, while reducing operational costs and complexity.
The previous MPLS network had a single-layer star topology, but this has now been restructured into two layers deploying Juniper Networks MX960 routers at the central core and MX480 routers for regional aggregation to meet P1′s network stability and scalability requirements while improving manageability.
Cisco & Juniper adopt 4G packet core
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Separate announcements have been made by Cisco and Juniper regarding new 4G evolved packet core (EPC) offers. Traditionally, total solution bids have been preferred by mobile operators where a large radio access network (RAN) vendor functions as the systems integrator, designing and rolling out the network and procuring third-party equipment only as required.
But the operators now have to rethink their procurement strategies because of a shift to end-to-end IP infrastructure and explosive mobile data forecasts.
Moving up the value chain and growing margins by offering leading-edge is currently on the minds of the router suppliers’ apart from providing feature-rich solutions rather than just playing a supporting role in mobile backhaul and Internet routing.
Mobile Security Products to be Incorporated in Almost 250 Million Handsets by 2011
A new study from Juniper Research has found that the market for mobile security products, including anti-virus, VPN, data and file encryption and mobile identity management applications, will reach almost $5billion by 2011 and be installed on 247m mobile phones by that time.
The factors driving this new market segment include:
- The security risk of identity theft.
- The unauthorised access to corporate networks by mobile devices.
- The growing threat of mobile viruses and malware.
- Corporate governance and state legislation.
- The increased dependence by mobile users on the delivery and storage of critical data on their mobile phones.
Juniper Research interviewed representatives of some of the fastest growing mobile security vendors uncovering a unique insight into the current and near-future status of the mobile security market. Highlights from the study include:
• The biggest mobile security opportunity will be in the secure mobile content sector (anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware and content filtering) with 40% of the total market
• Mobile Biometric solutions will contribute some $268million worth of revenue of the total mobile identity and access management market ($1.36billion) by 2011
• An increase of nearly $4billion from the 2006 figure of $827million to create a combined mobile security market worth $4.8billion by 2011
• By 2011, 247million mobile users worldwide (just under 8% of total) will be using their mobile security products on their mobile phones
Report author Alan Goode said: “Initially driven by the data hungry mobile business user who has seen the benefits of data services such as email, predominantly on their Blackberry devices, we will see mobile security products go mainstream by late 2008/early 2009 resulting in a doubling of revenues from 2008 to 2010.”
