Aircel rolls out 3G in Kashmir (India)

Aircel has launched its much awaited 3G services in Kashmir. Aircel is a joint venture of Malaysia based Maxis communications and Apollo hospital group.

According to Gurdeep Singh, COO Aircel, they have been working very hard in getting this right and have taken every step with deliberation. This is reflected in their success in the years leading up to 2010. The company is every excited about 3G as they see it as something that will begin to transform their lives in many ways.

He claimed that the launch of the 3G services will address the high speed digital needs of the consumers.

Gurdeep stated the Aircel service was speedy and could be availed by youth, housewives, professionals, children and even elderly as well on cheap rates.

The rates of the services have been fixed as US$2.94, $5.62, $11.20 and $17.89 for 75Mb, 150Mb, 350Mb and 1024Mb with one month validity respectively to its customers.

 

RCom launches 3G services in Kashmir (India)

Reliance Communications has launched its 3G services in the three districts of central Kashmir and promised to cover the whole Valley in the next two months.

With the launch of the service, RCom has become the first private company to launch the service in the Valley.

According to Vivek Kumar, the company’s executive for the state, the north Kashmir health resort of Gulmarg and south Kashmir tourist resort town Pahalgam would be provided the 3G services within the next one month. While providing the 3G service in the Valley, the company was strictly abiding by the directives of the central telecom ministry and also the security guidelines governing such services. Recently, the company launched 3G services in Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Mumbai.

The company executives added that with the 3G services in place, subscribers in Kashmir would have access to an Internet speed of 7.2 megabytes per second, 110 television channels, video conferencing, social networking and mobile cinema.

He concluded with the statement that Reliance Communications will lead the creation of a wire-free India through the launch of an affordable 3G service for all.

RCom launches 3G in Kashmir (India)

Reliance Communications (RCom) has launched 3G services in Kashmir.

According to the company, last year, in December, RCom launched 3G services in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Rajasthan.

According to RCom’s J&K Circle Head – Wireless Business, Ataul Haque, launching of 3G capabilities in Kashmir is an integral part of their Vision 2015 of creating a “Wirefree India” built upon the affordable 3G-for-all platform. In May, 2010, RCom bagged 13 key telecom circles during the 3G auction, including the key metros of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

The company also holds 3G licences in the telecom circles of Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, North East, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and Assam.

Bharti, Ericsson in Expansion Deal

Bharti Airtel has signed a $1 billion (approximately Rs 4,500 crores) network expansion contract with Ericsson, a Swedish telecom equipment maker.Under this contract, Bharti Airtel will expand and upgrade its GSM and GPRS network, as well as managed services. The deal will enable Bharti Airtel to rapidly extend its GSM footprint in the country, and increase its network capacity.

The three-year services agreement will see Ericsson manage design, development, and deployment of Airtel’s network, including capacity and coverage, enabling the operator to expand in rural India, and reach out to all towns and cities in around 15 regions.Speaking at the occasion, Manoj Kohli, president, Bharti Airtel, said that their partnership with Ericsson allows them to focus on delivering better customer experience, even as they leverage the world-class expertise of their partners to roll out their networks across all census towns by March 2007.

Kohli said that they are also sourcing next generation products that will allow them to deliver innovative products and services to customers.

The contract also involves Ericsson upgrading the Airtel network with mobile softswitch (Media Gateway and MSC server), the solution that paves the way to an all-IP network. Bharti Airtel will be able to cut operational costs, and introduce new services in a cost-efficient way.

The scope of the agreement extends to 15 Airtel circles of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, UP (East and West), Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and the North East.

In a statement, Mats Granryd, managing director, Ericsson India, said that rollout speed plays an extremely important role in large expansions of this nature, and that Ericsson has demonstrated expertise in this area. They are honored and pleased that Bharti Airtel has chosen them as a partner to expand its coverage across the country, particularly in untapped rural areas.
