Wataniya places highest bid for Palestinian mobile licence

Kuwaiti operator Wataniya International announced it was the highest bidder for the second Palestinian mobile licence, according to the Palestinian telecommunications and IT ministry. The company bid JOD 250 million as an upfront licence payment to install and operate a 2G/3G mobile network. The company will start negotiations to finalise licence terms and agree on frequencies. It will establish a new company in Palestine that will be 40 percent owned by Wataniya International, 30 percent by the Palestine Investment Fund and 30 percent floated through an IPO open to the general population.
