MANX Telecom has appointed David Smith as the new Director of Marketing since the company plans to expand business in the Island and globally. The company has newly created position.

He was previously the regional Vice President (Caribbean) in marketing communications for Cable and Wireless and also held senior marketing positions for telecoms operators in the UK, Channel Islands and Pakistan.

According to David, joining Manx Telecom at this particular time in its development is one of the most exciting challenges anyone in telecoms could face. The company’s reputation for innovation and service is an enviable one within the telecoms industry and he hopes that he can play the part to build on and enhance both the range of its operations, and its reputation across all the markets in which it operates, now and in the future.

The appointment  is the latest development in Manx Telecom’s strategy to  strengthen its marketing, sales, and new business development teams as it gears up to expand business in the Island and globally.

According to Chris Hall, Managing Director of Manx Telecom, he is extremely pleased to welcome David to the Manx Telecom management team. As a successful international marketeer he comes to them with a solid record of achievement in both B2B and consumer telecoms markets in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. It’s a time of rapid change and growth for them and he has no doubt that he will make a significant contribution to their ambitious plans to develop the Manx Telecom brand both on and off-Island.

MANX Telecom has announced a major new partnership with O2 UK which will target the international traveler market. The two telecoms providers have merged to provide a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) which will provide services for international customers travelling to the UK.

The agreement will enable customers to purchase pre-paid SIM cards which offer competitive in-country rates. In addition Manx Telecom will also act as a Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator giving smaller place MVNO companies access to the O2 network.

According to Chris Hall, Manx Telecom’s managing director, 02 is one of the largest telecoms operators in the UK with 21.4 million mobile customers. It’s also one of the most innovative in the world.  The fact that Manx Telecom have been chosen by O2 to work with them on such a major initiative is a huge endorsement of Manx Telecom’s ability to compete in the global arena working in this instance with one of the major players.

MVNO’s provide a mobile service to customers without themselves owning a mobile spectrum license or any mobile network infrastructure.

According to Tom Meageen, Manx Telecom’s head of business development, over recent years, the company has developed an excellent portfolio of mobile products which the company market to international travelers. In 2009, Manx launched a very successful MVNO in the USA and this new partnership with O2 will enable us to further strengthen the market position by adding one of the leading networks in the UK to the portfolio.

Both 02 in the UK and Manx Telecom were part of the Telefonica group until June 2010 when it was announced that Manx Telecom had been acquired by CPS Partners.

At the time of the announcement both O2 UK and Manx Telecom alleged that they would seek opportunities to work together on new projects and the MVNO deal is the first of such initiatives.

As per Chris, Manx Telecom is recognized throughout the global telecoms industry for the track record of innovation, the culture of partnership, and the ability to deliver on promises. Looking to the future, the priorities are to firstly continually improve the range and value of the services we deliver for the on-Island customers and secondly to expand and grow the off-Island business. Both objectives are complementary – a strong Manx Telecom using its skills and expertise in the global marketplace means that on-Island they can continue to offer leading edge products and services, provide jobs, and help keep the Island at the forefront of the e-business revolution. This deal and others like it which will follow in the future is the best possible news for both Manx Telecom and the Island’s economy.

According to O2 Business sales director, Ben Dowd, O2 was always looking forward to continuing the relationship with Manx Telecom, and this deal opens up new opportunities for them. In the last 12 months alone the company has worked hard to make sure they have exactly the right mix of partners to grow the share and more importantly our revenue in the MVNO market. O2 is home to two of the largest players, and the MVNA capability with Manx Telecom now gives them the opportunity to offer smaller companies access to the O2 network.
