Android share in US market more than doubled
www.WirelessFederation.com/news:? The share of the Google Inc.’s Android mobile phone operating system in the US market more than doubled from September to December. From 2.5% in September, Androids share hit 5.2% in December. On the other hand, share of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Palm Inc were lost in the U.S. smart-phone platform market.
A number of hardware makers adopted Android, developed by Google, and the introduction of a number of handsets using the software, including the popular Motorola Inc. Droid has helped it to gain traction.
Android is always considered a competition to Apple’s iPhone. Apple’s share of the U.S. smart-phone market rose to 25.3% in December from 24.1% three months earlier.
Vodafone Spain launches UC package

Different forms of communications into an integrated, comprehensive and secure communications solution has been combined in the Microsoft Online Services web-based business applications. Calendar functions, work areas and IM features online can also be accessed by the users besides taking part taking in web and video conferences.
Voice and data services from Vodafone are also included in the UC pack , everything at a price of EUR 18 per month.
Microsoft & Orange team up for messenger radio

21 million users in France access Windows Live Messenger, making it the most popular instant messenger program in the country.
7,000 online radio stations and 11,000 podcasts could be accessed by the users through a Liveradio icon situated at the bottom of their chat windows.
Windows Mobile 7 to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress

The code for the OS update is yet to be finalized and the development is expected to be mostly complete by the end of summer, allowing the new OS to ship on devices by the end of the year.
However, there are also rumors that the launch of the Windows Mobile 7 launch may be delayed until 2011 as companies wait for the major revision, many of the recent smartphone introductions have focused on other platforms such as Android.

Windows Mobile Maldives to be launched

iPhones get the Bing App

Microsoft announced the introduction of a free Bing mobile search application for the two handsets which will also have features like movie showtimes, news and flight status.
In June, mobile web edition of Bing (the successor to its Live Search solution) was launched by Microsoft. Bing extended to touchscreen-based devices for web-enabled Windows Mobile, Sidekick and BlackBerry devices in early November. Earlier this month, Microsoft debuted a new application optimized for its Windows Mobile platform.
