www.WirelessFederation.com/news: BSNL, the state-run telco, has reportedly offered Ericsson, the technology vendor, a contract to supply 5.25 million GSM lines. The deal is reportedly worth US$500 million.
The deal has been announced in the backdrop of the controversy pertaining to BSNL’s ‘mega-tender’ for 93 million GSM lines.

Nokia Siemens Networks, another bidder for the mega deal, had challenged BSNL’s decision to disqualify it saying the bid did not meet the technical criteria.
Whereas, BSNL said that an ‘integrity panel’ has upheld its decision to disqualify Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) from its more than $6 billion tender to supply equipment.
“The integrity panel stand is that the decision on the NSN tender was right. The panel said the rejection was done correctly,” BSNL chairman, Kuldeep Goyal reportedly said.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Subscribers of T-Mobile in the Czech Republic can expect to enjoy advanced 3G data and multimedia services thanks to a faster mobile broadband network.

The upgraded 3G network is based on the energy-efficient Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi Multiradio Base Stations and HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) technology. It is expected to be launched in Prague by the end of the year.

The agreement between T-Mobile and Nokia Siemens Networks signed this month will offer a number of benefits to customers, but in particular the availability of high-speed mobile data services. HSPA technology is one of the latest developments in 3G mobile networks. The main advantage it provides to customers is high-speed data transfers with download and upload peak rates of up to 14.4 Mbps and 5.7 Mbps respectively. Such performance will create a DSL-like user experience. Moreover, the technology to be installed, will prepare the ground for the roll-out of the next generation of mobile networks.

According to a media report,  the vendor has upped StarHub’s network capacity by implementing a flat network architecture, using its Direct Tunnel solution. Peter Cook, Vice President, integrated network engineering, StarHub, said, ‘Data traffic has increased exponentially over the last two years, and StarHub is now geared to handle the current and future traffic needs of its subscribers. www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Nokia Siemens Networks has signed a EUR 2 bn multi-currency revolving credit facility with a syndicate of 21 international banks, following a process that was over-subscribed.

The 3-year Facility will be used for general corporate purposes including the refinancing of other bilateral facilities. The syndicated loan will provide a more efficient capital structure for Nokia Siemens Networks. The facility was oversubscribed from its initial launch amount of EUR 1.5 billion and subsequently increased to EUR 2 billion.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Nokia Siemens Networks, the telecom gear vendor, has grabbed a 5 – year contract from MobileOne (M1), the Singaporean mobile operator to upgrade its 2G networks for inroads of high speed mobile broadband.
The move forms a part of network modernization initiative, which will include an upgradation to an all IP network that will build the foundation for Long Term Evolution (LTE) and 4G subsequently.
Under the deal, NSN will install its Flexi Base Station and provide network optimization and related maintenance services. The complete modernization of the network is expected to be completed by 2011.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Elisa, the Finnish mobile operator and NSN have demonstrated a new technology that enables mobile operators to raise voice capacity of their 3G network cost effectively, up to 100%. The trial call was conducted in Elisa’s live 3G network using R&D prototype devices supplied by Nokia, demonstrating was of the world’s first circuit switched call over a high speed packet access network (CSoHSPA).
The companies explained that mobile systems such as GSM are designed to carry each voice call via a dedicated voice channel and the process is called as circuit switching.
The CS over HSPA feature carries voice calls over HSPA’s packet-based transport channels instead. The mobile subscribers would see no difference in their voice service, the CSoHSPA technique, when supported by the continuous packet connectivity (CPC) features of 3GPP Release 7, requires far less handset battery power.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Globe Telecom, the Filipino telco, has signed a $50 million loan facility with Export Development Canada. The loan will be utilised ‘to fund capital expenditure purchases from Nokia Siemens Networks,’ Globe said in a statement.
Globe had last month finished off a $103.7 million five-year loan facility with state-owned Land Bank (also known as Landbank) to help fund its capital expenditure in 2009.
The operator had earlier revealed its plans of investing nearly $350 million and $400 million in its networks and services, of which USD130 million will be used to fund its core 2G network expansion, while consumer broadband including 3G will get USD150 million.
A further $25 million will be utilised for corporate wireline data services, USD20 million will be for support CAPEX and USD25 million for international cable facilities.
