Sprint Nextel wants to turn the mobile phone into a 1-stop destination for checking various e-mail accounts. The carrier has teamed with Seven to make this goal a reality.
Specifically, Sprint Nextel has launched Sprint Mobile Email, which will enable Sprint customers to access their e-mail accounts from the likes of AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo! via the Sprint Mobile Email on their wireless devices. Customers also will be able to add other POP and IMAP e-mail accounts to access through the service, Sprint says.
The Sprint Mobile Email service enables a customer to set up a tab at the top of their wireless phone’s screen to direct the user to the inbox from a designated provider. Users also have the ability to open, delete, reply to, forward and send e-mails from each tabbed area.
The service is available to Sprint data customers at no additional charge. The service is currently available on select Sprint and Nextel phones, although plans are in the works to expand its reach to additional phones in the future.
Earlier this week, Alltel announced it is using Seven’s solution to enable delivery of real-time e-mail to its enterprise customers’ BREW handsets. While Alltel plans to extend the Seven application to a wide array of BREW handsets, the carrier initially launched the Office Sync for BREW e-mail service on the Motorola RAZR V3c and the Kyocera Strobe K612B.
