Japan plans to create new guidelines for mobile connection fees by 2010

The Japanese government is looking forward to introduce new guidelines of mobile connection fees by 2010, which are expected to be lower for the new customers. At present, the law that prevails doesn’t really clarify the specific pricing model for connection fees, which the service provider pay each other, and are as high as 35 yen/3 min, a major reason why domestic mobile phone fees are high.
Yuji Kosugi, a communications ministry official, said the government plans to gather opinions on how to improve the nation’s mobile phone system, but it has not decided to reduce connection fees.
Currently the mobile phone connection fees are 7 times more than the fixed-line connection fees and the ministry plans to create a standard pricing model, to be followed by all mobile operators.
