www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Brazil, in the month of February, has added 415,900 new mobile phone lines, a rise of 0.2% since January’09, taking the total number of active lines to 152.3 million. The net addition in terms of subscribers fell by 67% in February 2009, compared to February 2008.
Of the total number of lines, the prepaid segment held 124.3 million lines whereas 28 million were postpaid.
Vivo tops the chart with 45.5 million lines (29.8%), followed by Claro with 39.9 million (25.8%). TIM came third with 35.7 million (23.4%) and lastly followed by Oi and Brasil Telecom jointly with 31.5 million (19%).
Anatel reported a mobile penetration of 79.94% in the country.
www.WirelessFederation.com – According to a new report by TRA, UAE has become world leader in terms of phone lines per person. The mobile phone line uptake in the country has gone to nearly two mobile phones per person. The TRA’s report further reveals that the number of mobile phone lines in December reached 191 lines per 100 users.
The Indian government plans to cut off 25 million mobile phone in the country which according to the telecoms ministry are having fake IMEI numbers or none at all. The move is seen as a part of security purpose, especially after the Mumbai terror attack.
An official letter to phone providers said: “In the interest of national security, all providers are hereby directed to make provisions so that calls without IMEI or with IMEI consisting of all zeroes are not processed or [are] rejected.”

Brazil ended the month of November with 147 million active mobile phone lines, rising by 1.55% since October’08, reports the Brazilian regulator, Anatel. The monthly net addition were 2.2 million in contrast with four million in the month of October. Since past one year nearly 30.7 million new mobile connection have been activated.
Spain, at October end, has totalled the number of mobile phone lines to 50.59 million, adding 249,913 new mobile lines in October, up by 4.6% sunce 2007. According to a monthly report by Spanish telecoms regulator CMT, Vodafone has acquired 29.2% of the total net addition in October, whereas Orange grabbed 25.5%, then came Yoigo which accounted for 19.2% and Movistar accounted for 14.3% and MVNOs grabbed the remaining 1.9%. Mobile penetration reached 111.9 lines per 100 inhabitants in comparison to 107.0 in October 2007.
Spain added 181,034 postpaid subscribers and around 61,879 prepaid subscribers in October. Some 338,361 mobile phone numbers were ported in October, up by 5.9% versus since 2007. Yoigo saw a positive result by seeing a portability of 7,459 subscribers whereas Vodafone, Movistar and Orange registered a negative result.
