Vodafone Netherlands acquires TNF
Vodafone Netherlands has acquired Dutch virtual network services provider The Network Factory (TNF). The mobile operator did not disclose any financial details. TNF has no network of its own, but it has contracts with 15 large carriers in the Netherlands, including KPN, BBned and all cable operators. By acquiring TNF, Vodafone is able to offer integrated broadband services for voice and data communication on mobile and fixed networks to the enterprise market. With this acquisition, Vodafone says it can significantly extend its offering to business customers and strengthen its market position. The takeover is part of the Mobile Plus strategy of Vodafone Group. Both companies have been cooperating for years as TNF was a wholesale customer for mobile services. A takeover was needed as the demand for mobile voice services was growing for TNF customers, while Vodafone wanted to expand its portfolio with fixed-line services. Another option for Vodafone was to buy a network operator, but this would require large investments to make the infrastructure IP-ready.
