Loxley partners MPG for wireless broadband service on TOT (Thailand)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: In order to enhance the operation of its mobile virtual network, Loxley announced its partnership with UK-based Mobile Partners Group (MPG). MPG will provide 3G-2.1GHz wireless broadband service on TOT’s network in greater Bangkok.

Established in 2006, MPG’s purpose was to simplify mobile-service set-ups with selected partners. At present, it also enables brand names or companies that want to enter the mobile business as either an SP (service provider) or MVNO (mobile virtual network operator).

Loxley, 365 Communication, Samart I-Mobile (SIM), IEC and M Consultant were selected by TOT to provide 3G-service on an MVNO basis for its Bangkok network.

Loxley is investing Bt40 million on related systems and will run the service under i-KooL 3G brand.  The company aims to lure about 30,000 customers as well as break even within 18 months.

According to executive vice president of Loxley, Suroj Lamsam, Loxley’s 3G services would enhance its close-circuit TV system management, existing IT solutions on fleet management, as well as electricity including water-meter management. All these services are offered to state and private enterprises.

T-Mobile UK agrees ninth major MVNO partner, Vectone. To take on Lyca and Lebara Mobile.

T-mobile along with Vectone intends to capture a large chunk of the increasing migration of international calling minutes on to the mobile.
Vectone is already established across Europe and has over one million customers across Denmark, Norway, Austria, The Netherlands and Switzerland.
T-mobile claims to have over 50% of the wholesale market already (virgin’s MVNO operation rides on t-mobile).
The Ethnic focussed, low-cost prepay service is estimated to target ten million potential subscribers in the UK generating more than seven billion calls per year.
T-Mobile, managing director Richard Moat said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting Vectone’s ambitious expansion plans for the UK market. The deal with Vectone signals our intent to become a major player in the ethnic MVNO arena.
‘With international calling card minutes rapidly migrating to mobile, this is an excellent time to be forging new partnerships in a segment which is showing signs of bucking the recession with strong projected growth rates.
‘Vectone builds on our eight existing MVNO partnerships and underlines our ambitions to target new growth areas in the wholesale market.’

Lycamobile announces it has reached first-year subscriber target (UK)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: British Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Lycamobile announced that it has reached its target of 1.2 million subscribers within the first year of operation. The operator, targeting the ethnic markets in UK, said that its sign-ups have been driven by customers looking for ‘no-commitment’ mobile service and low cost international calls. Lycamobile stated that over 80% of the calls made by people using its service are to international destinations.

Croatia set to get its first MVNO

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A new operator Telcro and T-Mobile Hrvatska have signed a contract as a result of which Croatia will get its first MVNO. The services are set to launch during the summer of 2009.

The company has funding from twenty investors of which the bulk are Croatian and the remainder based in the USA.

According to company director, Kre…¡imir Profaca, an MVNO can be profitable with just a few tens of thousands of subscribers, compared to the millions needed by the network operators and although the market is being saturated, thanks to multiple SIM ownership the real penetration rate could be as low as 60%.

MVNO deal signed by Tele2 in Germany

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement has been signed between Tele2 Telecommunications Services GmbH and VIAG Interkom in Germany as per which Tele2 will use Interkom’s wireless network to provide the air interface for Tele2′s fixed line customers.

With over 1 million residential and business fixed telephony customers, Tele2 is one of Germany’s largest Indirect Access Operators.

According to Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, President and CEO of Tele2 AB, Germany is the largest telecoms market in Europe and this MVNO will enable Tele2 to offer an attractively priced offering of both fixed and mobile services on one bill to its customers.

The MVNO is expected to be operational in Q2 2002.
