MySpace loses 10 mn users in one month

MySpace has lost 10 million users in just one month – between January and February 2011 – falling down to 63 million members.

As per analysts, MySpace had 63 million users in February 2011, as compared to 73 million in January 2011.

The company slashed 500 jobs earlier this year and is apparently unable to keep up with Facebook.  Last year at the same time, MySpace was attracting 95 million unique users.

According to Mike Jones, MySpace’s Chief Executive, MySpace was no longer a social network and Facebook rival. MySpace is a not a social network anymore. It is now a social entertainment destination.

Vodafone launches infinite mobile plan

Vodafone has announced a new range of plans offering unlimited calls and messages to Australian phones for less than half the price of its nearest competition.

The company’s new plan is the ‘Infinite’. There are four prices in the Infinite range, with the more expensive plans offering a higher data allowance and includes value to spend on international calls each month.

The new plans, which will be launched on Wednesday, can be taken on either 12- or 24-month contracts, or on a month-to-month commitment, and will be available in conjunction with Vodafone’s current range of smartphones, including Apple’s iPhone 4.

As a bonus to the included calling, messaging and data inclusions, customers who choose an Infinite plan will get unlimited access to social-networking sites Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and MySpace.

Verizon Wireless launches LG Octane

Verizon Wireless has unveiled LG Octane. The device is said t be for the for the text messaging enthusiasts, it comes with two screens and a full QWERTY keyboard and there’s a New Mobile E-Mail client 4.0 as well as the Social Beat app, providing flawless combination with popular social networking services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

The handset also includes a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, Bluetooth, media player, HTML web browser and a microSD expansion slot that can take cards of up to 16 GB. In addition, the Octane is a Skype mobile capable device, delivering cheaper phone calls to its users. Finally, there’s the option to set favorite shortcut keys for quick access to up to 10 contacts with picture ID.

The enthusiast can grab the phone for US$99.99 after a US$50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year contract.

Sony Ericsson has finally launched the Android-based XPERIA X8 and the GreenHeart Cedar. The XPERIA X8 is launched with Android v1.6 Donut, but will be upgraded with v2.1 Eclair before the end of the year.

se8Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 features 3-inch touchscreen display. The device runs on Android mobile OS. It features 3.2 megapixel camera, 1200 mAh battery and WiFi, games, video, internet and more . The device internal memory is 128MB expandable upto 16 GB. The phone additionally features NeoReader barcode scanning app, USB mass storage, Google services, Android Market Client, Gmail, Google Talk, and YouTube. There is no official announcement on prices but the phone is expected to cost around US$256.37.

cseThe other handset launched by the company is the Sony Ericsson Cedar, which is a low budget phone and offers 3G capability. The company has used recycled plastic in Cedar, and has a low power consumption charger, no hard copy of manual, waterborne paint, and small packaging.

The phone features a 2MP camera, VGA video recording, Music player & FM radio. The device has a Bluetooth and also holds 3.5 mm jack for audio. The phone has 2.2 TFT screen with 262K colors and comes with Applications for Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.

Cedar comes with a micro USB charger, and is available in two colors, black/silver and black/red. Company has not provided any details about the price yet, but is expected to be around US$104.75

Vodafone ties-up with Blackberry

Vodafone has launched Blackberry services in Ghana. The new deal with RIM has helped Vodafone Group Ghana to provide mobile customers with the next level services, and a real smart phone experience through their Blackberry devices.

According to William A. Darkah, Head of Enterprise Operations, Vodafone Group Ghana, BlackBerry is mainly a messaging phone with the largest collection of messaging features in a smart-phone, which includes auto-text, auto-correct, text prediction, and support for many languages, keyboard shortcuts, text emoticons, push email, push Facebook and Myspace notifications, among others.

BlackBerry is a line of mobile e-mail and smart-phone devices, developed and designed by Canadian company (RIM) since 1996 as a personal digital assistant with address book, calendar and to-do list capabilities. It also functions as a portable media player with video playback and camera facilities, and has the ability to send and receive (push) Internet e-mail wherever mobile network service coverage is present.

Nokia unveils X5 music phone

www.WirelessFederation.com/news:?Two new phones have been launched by Nokia in its Xseries range at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. The music market has been targeted by the new Nokia X5 with high sound quality, dedicated music keys and loud speakers, as well as access to Ovi Music and the Comes with Music service in some regions.

The square-shaped handset gives the look of an MP3 player and it has QWERTY keypad. Major IM and webmail services are supported by the mobile and offers quick access to major social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Hi5). The device is also loaded with a 5 megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom and an LED flash, and the 200MB on-board memory can be topped up with up to 32GB via microSD cards.

There are possibilities of changing track by spinning the phone and access to unread messages by shaking the phone. According to the company, the phone will launch initially in Indonesia in Q3 for a retail price of EUR 165 before taxes and subsidies and the event’s second launch was the Nokia X6 8GB, a smaller version of the X6 which originally launched in 32GB and later in 16GB.

T-Mobile USA to unveil LG mobiles

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: T-Mobile USA will receive mobile phones from LG Electronics. With this tie up, LG now has partnerships with all four of America’s major wireless providers, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint.

Three new phones- LG Sentio, LG dLite and LG GS170. – will be launched by LG and T-Mobile from this month. Facebook, Twitter and MySpace can be accessed by the users of LG Sentio and LG dLite via T-Mobile’s exclusive social networking service application, Social Buzz.

3G is supported by both the phones allowing users to enjoy high-speed Internet through Web2Go, T-Mobile’s mobile portal. LG Sentio features a 3-inch full-touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard and it is designed for heavy texting and social networking.

Project Pink effort, the Kin One and Kin Two- the three long rumored product of Microsoft has been designed expressly for mobile social networking and multimedia sharing. The gadgets have been manufactured by Sharp and automatically bring together feeds from services including Facebook, MySpace and Twitter via the Kin Loop.

An always-on home screen known as UI automatically prioritizes status updates, messages, feeds and photos from contacts identified by users as their favorite people. The Kin phones are touch screen-based and camera-enabled and introduce a new version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

Kin One is available for $49.99, while the Kin Two (which adds HD video) is priced $99.99. According to the operator, customers will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan to maximize the Kin experience.

Lebara Mobile, Mobile Virtual Network Operator has unveiled a mobile portal with nationally-focused sites in multiple languages.  In order to celebrate the launch, the company is offering customers free mobile Internet browsing for the first three months.
