www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The European Commission has dropped its plans to levy new taxes on the mobile handsets, as the member nations voted against the proposal.
It was December’08, that EU Commission proposed the introduction of new taxes that will increase the price of navigation-enabled phones with 3.7%, and the price of mobile TV-enabled phones with 14%.
We need more products and businesses free of tariffs, not less, and therefore today’s decision and the backing that was achieved is a very positive signal,†declared Ewa Bjorling, Sweden’s Trade Minister.
The higher prices will surely slow down the fast paced growth and demand of mobile handsets in Europe.
