First LTE phone launches in Las Vegas

Samsung Mobile has launched the very first LTE phone, ‘Samsung Craft’ in the United States. This is the launch of the very first commercial 4G LTE network with MetroPCS in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Besides  the LTE chips inside, the Craft comes with 1x EV-DO CDMA radio, Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth, a 3.3″ AMOLED touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, and a 2GB microSD card with support for cards up to 32GB in size. The Craft is pre-loaded with a full-length copy of Star Trek on its SD card.

The Craft will be available for US$299 from MetroPCS, and the company’s new 4G Plans include a standard Unlimited Voice/Text/Web plans for US$55 per month and the company also launching a premium unlimited plan which will include 4G Video On Demand which streams TV from 14 stations including NBC, BET, and Univision.

MetroPCS’ network will cover both 4G and otherwise, which  is quite limited, so this launch is more of a ground breaking launch for the city of Las Vegas, as it is the only city in the United States to have live WiMAX, LTE, and HSPA+ networks running concurrently.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: A four-year sponsorship agreement has been announced by telecom operator, Verizon Wireless with the National Football League. As per the agreement, a wealth of NFL content highlighted by live streaming coverage of NBC’s marquee Sunday Night Football broadcast will be served to the subscribers.

Verizon Wireless has become the official wireless service sponsor of NFL, replacing Sprint besides becoming the league’s exclusive mobile media partner. Sprint has prominently featured the NFL in its advertising efforts in recent years.

The value of the deal is estimated to be $720 million which also includes rights fee and advertising spending. Earlier, Sprint package was valued at $120 million. The deal kicks off the mobile coverage of the 2010 NFL Draft, beginning April 22, this season. NFL Network’s NFL RedZone channel will be introduced to mobile. Live look-ins of every touchdown and signature play from the Sunday afternoon games will also be supplied.

NFL Network’s own Thursday Night Football matchups will also be broadcasted by Verizon with the cable channel’s related football programming airing live 24/7/365.

On-demand video and analysis from the NFL Network and NFL Films, fantasy information, news and statistics, and customizable alerts, ringtones and graphics will also be included in Verizon’s NFL Mobile package.

Prior to the start of the regular NFL season, the information regarding the specific handsets and pricing will be announced by Verizon in August.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: NBC Olympics: Vancouver 2010 channel via V Cast Video has been launched by Verizon Wireless in partnership with NBC Universal. It is just one component of the operator’s multi-platform Winter Olympic Games coverage.

Content spanning the V Cast mobile platform along with video on demand, high-definition television and broadband will be offered by the operator on February 12 opening ceremonies. According to Verizon, its FiOS TV effort will deliver more than 835 hours of programming, the most total hours ever for a Winter Olympics broadcast.

Athlete profiles and video on individual sports will be in the spotlight and daily updates, results and other news will also be featured.
