NPT adds Lycamobile to list of operators (Norway)

The Norwegian Post and Telecoms Regulatory Authority (NPT) has announced that it has chosen mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Lycamobile for having significant market power (SMP).

It means that certain obligations will now apply to the virtual operator with regards to termination charges and Lycamobile will be required to reduce its rates gradually over the next three years.

In line with the NPT’s previously implemented framework, issued in September 2010, Lycamobile will follow the same fee reduction plan as the market’s other operators that have been designated with SMP, those being: NetCom, Telenor, Network Norway, TDC Nordic, Tele2 Norge and Ventelo.

Lycamobile’s current pre-regulation termination rate is US$0.07 per minute, but this will fall to US$0.05 per minute from July1, 2011. Subsequently, the rate will fall to US$0.03 from  July1, 2012 before dropping once more, to US$0.02 from  January1, 2013.

Ericsson selected as primary vendor for 2G/3G network rollout by Mobile Norway

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Mobile Norway, the joint venture formed by Tele2 Norge and Network Norway has selected Ericsson, a Swedish vendor as the main vendor for the roll-out of a new 2G/3G mobile network in Norway. Mobile Norway plans to roll out a network covering 75% of the population in the ‘coming years’.

There has not been any formal announcement of the financial deal or the time frame for the deployment of the new infrastructure.

In September 2007, Network Norway and Tele2 Norgehad announced their partnership and under the terms of the deal, Tele2 Norge acquired 50% of the shares in AMI, holder of Norway’s third GSM-900 license. After the deal, the 50/50 joint venture Mobile Norway came into existence.

Two months after the announcement the Norwegian government revealed that it had received an application from Mobile Norway for the country’s fourth UMTS license. Mobile Norway was also awarded the license for around NOK47 million after a sealed auction in December that year.

Tele2, Network Norway build mobile network in Norway (Norway)

Alternative operator Tele2 Norway has signed an agreement with Network Norway to jointly build Norway’s third mobile network. Tele2 Norway has purchased a 50 percent stake in AMI, owner of a GSM 900 licence. The joint company, AMI, plans to build a mobile network covering a large proportion of Norway’s population. The first phase will see deployment of 400-500 base stations. Roll-out has already commenced. The joint network will be a compliment to Tele2′s existing MVNO and national roaming agreement with NetCom.
