Vodafone India introduces relocation service on its network (India)
Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, announced the launch of a unique service for all its post-paid customers across India. Since Vodafone is present in all states of India, any customer who wants to re-locate from one state to another state can continue to enjoy un-interrupted services from Vodafone.
Customers relocating to different parts of the nation often face trouble securing a local mobile phone connection. It is a big hassle to search for the right tariff plan, service provider, etc. in the new location. Moreover, customers who were enjoying special privileges like higher credit limits, billing details, etc. in their older location need to establish their credentials in their new location.
Keeping this inconvenience in mind, Vodafone has launched the new service to enable its post-paid customers a seamless relocation experience. The customer needs to apply for the same in his current location. The CRM (Customer Relationship Management) will alert the Vodafone team in the new location from where executives will contact the customer, ensure a convenient process of allocating them a new number, retaining their credit limit, changing the billing address and collecting identity proof documents.
Speaking about the new service, Sanjoy Mukerji, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India, said that at Vodafone, they are committed to deliver the best-in-class services to reach out to their customers. This has been possible only because they are present in all the 23 telecom circles and they have a state-of-art CRM system. Through this service, they aim to provide their post-paid customers a hassle free relocation experience and uninterrupted services on Vodafone.
DoT’s proposals may facilitate dual tech players(India)
DoT has proposed a policy that supports Dual Tech operators which will considerably expand Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices operations.
According to the legal advisor, DoT, the GSM licensees who have received the initial start-up spectrum of 4.4 Mhz and meet the eligibility conditions for grant of additional spectrum up to 6.2 Mhz may be given top priority, as this is the assured quantum of spectrum as per the License Agreement and also their vested right.
RCom in particular is likely to gain enormously as it meets the subscriber base criteria in prime locations. It is expected to bag additional GSM spectrum in such circles.
TRAI in the recent times had recommended that operators with 6.2 MHz of spectrum should be considered first for allocation of additional spectrum, as they have already made an investment to roll-out their networks.

TOT launches 3G network in Thailand
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The launch of 3G network by Thailand’s state-controlled mobile network TOT got a cold response from the subscribers. However, initially the network will be available only in Bangkok and the areas surrounding it. Expansion of the network in the near future relies on the auction of the 3G license.
National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will offer four licenses- three of 10 Mhz and a fourth with 15Mhz of radio spectrum while the reserve price will range between US$100-US$200 million. The process will not take place until next year as there is a lack of executives to form a quorum.
Small trials of 3G networks are already run by the current operators over their existing GSM radio spectrum, while CAT Telecom which is a CDMA operator, is seeking an overseas investor to assist in 3G rollout plans
iPhone’s rival smartphones to cost more in the UK
The cost of contract smartphones may rise in the UK if a price war erupts between operators over the iPhone.
Orange announced on September 28 and Vodafone on September 29 that they have successfully forged an alliance with Apple to launch the iPhone on their respective networks in the UK. T-mobile and 3 may be announcing something shortly too.
In an attempt to lure customers to the data-happy iPhone, mobile operators will have to increase subsidies on the iPhone. Meanwhile, the cost of other handsets will have to rise as a result. Operators could shift subsidies from other vendors, such as RIM, HTC and Samsung, thus increasing their handset prices.
Orange will be selling the iPhone before Christmas, while Vodafone will only be able to launch it early 2010.
O2 has been bit hard by Apple’s decision to remove its exclusivity after two years. It is thought the network may now look at alternative devices, such as the Palm Pre or Motorola’s android based range of phones to boost revenues.
