Nuevatel inks GSM backhaul deal with SES AMERICOM (Bolivia)

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Nuevatel, the Bolivian mobile operator, has signed a three year contract with the satellite operator SES AMERICOM for satellite-delivered GSM backhaul. The contract is likely to enable Nuevatel to expand both its mobile and public telephony service to rural and remote regions across Bolivia. Under the agreement Nuevatel will tap 12.1MHz of Ku-band capacity aboard the NSS-7 satellite.
Leonardo Saunero, vice president of regulations at Nuevatel, said of the deal: ‘GSM backhaul delivered over the NSS-7 satellite is enabling Nuevatel to break through traditional cost and geographical barriers to effectively and efficiently offer cellular service in the most rural and hard to reach areas of Bolivia where terrestrial services cannot go.’
