Telegeography writes…US wireline operator Windstream Communications has reported improved fourth quarter sales, with new broadband subscriptions cancelling out a drop in the number of local access line customers. Fourth quarter revenues reached USD828 million, up 3% on a pro forma basis. The telco saw access line numbers fall 4.4% to 3.24 million, but broadband subscriptions were up by 53,000 over the final three months of the year to 656,000.
Windstream Communications was formed in July 2006 when the wireline business of ALLTEL Corporation was spun off and merged with VALOR Communications. It provides local telephony services to 3.4 million customers, primarily in rural areas of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas. The firm also provides long-distance and broadband internet services.
