Out of the £31.6 million donations raised so far by Sport Relief 2010Mobile, £3.4 million has been contributed by mobile donations of £1, £5 and £10, powered by Mobile Interactive Technology (MIT). This year’s Sport Relief campaign is the first time Comic Relief has used a £10 text donation mechanic.

The BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride, which saw various celebrities including David Walliams, Miranda Hart and Davina McCall cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just under 82 hours, generated £700,000 via £1 and £5 mobile donations

According to Sport Relief Operations Director, Caroline Lien, he would like to say a massive thank you to the mobile industry and HM Treasury for their continued support.

In his opinion, mobile has proven to be an extremely popular channel for them, as it appeals to a wide audience demographic, and enables an instant donation at various price points. I’d also like to thank MIT’s Client Services and Operations team for their help and dedication throughout the campaign.

Southeastern Europe mobile operator Cosmote has reported second-quarter revenues up 31.6 percent from a year ago to EUR 540.7 million. EBITDA increased 13.5 percent to EUR 203.6 million, while net profit slipped 2.9 percent to EUR 81.5 million. Cosmote attributed the drop in net profit to higher depreciation and financing charges from expanding its operations, as well as losses from its recently re-launched Romanian operation, which had a net loss of EUR 26 million in the quarter. Cosmote said it expects to complete the earlier announced acquisition of telecom retailer Germanos in the fourth quarter.
