CCK says operators ready to begin MNP testing (Kenya)
The Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) has stated that the mobile operators are ready to begin testing the mobile number portability system.
As per CCK, according to the latest reports of the technical meetings, all operators are ready to commence testing their MNP systems this week.
According to previous reports, a number of mobile operators were not technically ready for the service which is to be implemented on April 1. Orange Kenya Mickael Ghossein stated that operators were yet to carry out technical trials and some don’t have the equipment in place.
The regulator added that although the mobile operators may not be exactly at the same level of preparedness, the Commission is yet to receive any formal notification suggesting inability to implement MNP by the agreed date of April 1. The country missed the initial December 2010 deadline due to logistical issues, operators said.
Orange Kenya launches Valentine offer
Orange Kenya has launched a Valentine’s Day offer. Starting today, the operator will be offering a range of Alcatel handsets at subsidized prices, from its various shops around the country. The offer runs until the end of February.
The offer will be the internet-enabled Alcatel OT 300 for US$18.50, bundled with free airtime worth US$12.33. Other phones include the QWERTY Alcatel OT 335, Alcatel OT 606 and Alcatel OT 806.
Orange Kenya launches fixed-line redundancy service
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Orange Kenya’s fixed line users can now enjoy full service on the operators copper fixed line service as the operator’s fixed-line redundancy solution has gone live. The solution has been developed to ensure full service availability for Orange Fixed customers and has been unveiled as company’s aim to upgrade the network.
The move will ensure that full service is available for customers in case of copper cable cuts or any other form of service disruption. According to CEO Mickael Ghossein, with the new solution in place and in the event of any downtime on the Orange fixed service, all call traffic will be automatically rerouted to any working Orange Fixed line, Orange Fixed Plus or Orange Mobile lines ensuring business continuity.
Four alternate lines can now be provided by the company to which phone calls can be forwarded to if their normal line is not picked up within a reasonable time as a result of vandalism or an inadvertent service interruption. Postpaid customers will also be offered handsets.
Orange Kenya gives a permanent status to Sh1/min promotional offer
Orange Kenya makes its Sh1/min offer a permanent one limited only to five people on each subscriber call list. The following offer was initially started as a two month promotion offer. As of today, the one shilling charge on the Orange network will become part of the permanent prepaid tariff on the Friends & Family service,†Telkom Kenya CEO, Dominique Saint-Jean said. Orange is the Telkom Kenya mobile phone brand name.
Prepaid subscribers will choose up to 5 preferred Orange and Telkom Fixed numbers and continue paying the special Sh1 per minute tariff, all day, every day,†he said.
