Harrison to Aid Oxygen8 Growth Plans

The global micro-billing, communications and mobile enablement firm, Oxygen8 Communication has appointed James Harrison as UK Sales Manager, as part of the company’s strategy to grow its business activities by 60% over the next two years. Harrison will be looking after the sales and business development strategy of Oxygen8.

According to Harrison, customers like the fact that they can come to Oxygen8 for a full range of end-to-end services, including sales, account management, support, technical assistance and compliance advice. In his opinion, the breadth and scope of the company offering means that they are ideally positioned to help companies exploit the potential of mobile, web and voice services in order to generate new revenues and improve customer engagement.

Before this, Harrson served as National Sales Manager at Mainline Digital Communications, the UK’s largest distributor of Orange mobile phones in the B2B sector.

Orange Mobile Data Usage dominated by men: Report

A recent report published in the sixth Digital Media Index (ODMI) of Orange has revealed that whilst the consumption of mobile data continues to increase, there are interesting differences between men and women on what they use their handsets for.  The survey was conducted to find how digital media is consumed across its mobile network.

While the social networking sites are becoming popular day by day, men are more likely to spend more time and view pages, to keep up-to-date with friends’ news, status updates and pictures.

As well as accounting for 64% of unique users, men also view 33% more pages than women on social networking sites overall. Almost 2 million Orange customers now use their handsets for social networking, generating over 1 billion page impressions on social networking sites each month.

France Telecom to launch hybrid mobile/fixed handsets

The new “Unik” phones will operate as usual on the Orange mobile network, but when a client is at home, the phone will connect automatically to the fixed residential line via a WiFi link. This is similar to what BT launched in the UK earlier this year.

The service requires the Livebox broadband decoder from France Telecom, and will cost an additional 10-15 eur per month for Orange subscribers.

An estimated 30 pct of mobile calls are made from the home, and France Telecom hopes that 15 pct of its Orange clients will sign up for the service by the end of 2008.

The “Unik” handsets will be built by Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung, and will have an average sale price of about 100 eur.
