Pannon selects Alac-Lu for IP upgrade (Hungary)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Alcatel-Lucent’s all-IP solution has been selected by Hungarian mobile operator Pannon, part of the Telenor Group, to unify its mobile core network and its existing IP/MPLS-based mobile backhaul infrastructure.
Pannon will lay the foundation for the future introduction of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, besides catering to the anticipated surge in demand in mobile traffic after this IP upgrade. Currently, 3.6 million customers are served and 33% of the domestic mobile market is controlled by Pannon.
According to Kenneth Fredriksen, general manager for ZTE’s Telenor Global Business Unit, LTE will enable mobile users to experience high speed mobile broadband and exciting new services and with this commercial trial, ZTE aims to demonstrate the superior performance of the LTE solutions to Pannon and the Telenor group.
Hungarian telco Pannon’s personnel costs to be cut by HUF 1.9 bln
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The personnel costs of Hungarian mobile operator Pannon will be cut by HUF 1.9 billion and the company is also planning to start a consultation with employees on the restructuring plans.
The reduction of the personal costs is expected to affect around 200 employees and 50 contractors. The cost saving is planned to be used to maintain and increase investment in mobile broadband services and future LTE networks.
Telenor reaches 100 million mobile subscribers
Telenor has signed up its 100 millionth mobile subscriber. The milestone was achieved at its Hungarian operator Pannon, where the customer was given free mobile usage for a year and trip to
Norway
. The Norwegian company offers mobile services in 13 countries and earlier predicted passing the 100-million subscriber mark this year. It last reported 96 million subscribers at the end of June. The subscriber figures are based on 100 percent of consolidated and associated operators. On a consolidated basis, accounting for less than 100 percent ownership of some associates, the company has 56.5 million subscribers at the start of September.
