LG start Swift Black sale in Poland
LG Electronics has launched sales of the Swift Black P970 smartphone in Poland.
The Android 2.2-powered smartphone features a 4-inch IPS LCD screen under the NOVA technology, 5 megapixel photo camera and 2 megapixel camera for video-calls. The device supports the Wi-Fi Direct Standard.
The smartphone is available for sale in Poland for US$588 and will be available from Polish mobile operators Orange, Era and Plus in mid-May.
TP launches mobile app for visually disabled, seniors (Poland)
TP Group has launched the new NN Assistent application focused on subscribers suffering from visual disabilities and seniors. The application offers a voice menu for accessing all the functions of handsets.
It allows users to recognise colours, identify the direction of the colour source, and define the location of the subscriber using GPS. The application “reads” aloud texts appearing on the screen of the hansdset.
The application is accessible using either Polish or English languages. Its monthly subscription costs US$4.05. The application can be used on the Nokia 6210 Navigator, 6220 Classic and E75 handsets.
FreeM launches free mobile internet with ads (Poland)
FreeM has launched a new prepaid offer of 10MB daily mobile internet traffic free for subscribers.
The internet is fully accessible after accepting a full-screen advertising block after each 0.5GB of traffic.
Aero2 launches mobile services in 10 new towns (Poland)
Aero2 has launched its HSPA+ network in 47 new base stations to take the total to 495 antennas across the country.
The operator Cyfrowy Polsat, which uses the Aero2 network, has started providing mobile data services in 10 new towns. The operator offers up to 28.8Mbps broadband.
EC inquires Polish mobile investment agreement
The European Commission (EC) has objected to the investment agreement proposed by Polish national telecommunications regulator UKE with mobile operators.
The regulator is expected to soon sign a deal to slow the reduction in mobile termination rates, in exchange for operators pledging investments in networks enhancement.
The EC considers the agreement incompatible with the EU regulation on communications, and expects a reduction in interconnect rates to US$0.035 per minute in Poland from 1 July. The UKE noted that the EC’s comments are not binding.
NFC to commercially launch in Poland
NFC will commercially be launching for the general public in Poland by the end of the year.
Pilots are underway already at six banks: PKO BP, BZ WBK, Citi Handlowy, Milennium, MultiBank together mBank and ING Bank Slaski.
In 2010, the first bank Inteligo began testing the new service with Era. Shortly afterwards, a pilot was begun by BZ WBK with Polkomtel, and for several weeks the project is running with Orange Poland.
According to the Payment Card Director at MultiBank Joanna Materka, the main obstacle in NFC payments development is the few phone models supporting the technology.
T-Mobile NL installs Voxeo technology for self-service portal
T-Mobile Netherlands has installed Voxeo’s technology to deliver personalized self-service to its customers.Voxeo is a voice application platforms and hosted services provider.
Based on the experience T-Mobile made with deployments of this technology in countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Poland and Slovakia, the company selected Voxeo’s application lifecycle management suite VoiceObjects to provide customer self-service including customers receiving information about their number portability status, the handset repair status if they submitted a handset for repair, and they can set service barrings for international calls and premium numbers.
Additional services include the ability to activate or deactivate the mailbox service and a contract end date information service. If a customer’s contract is getting to the end date, the customer will be automatically transferred to an agent to extend the contract which increases sales revenue.
T-Mobile will further expand the self-service portal with additional new applications to increase the customer service automation rate. No financial details were disclosed.
Cyfrowy Polsat rolls out promo for students (Poland)
Cyfrowy Polsat has introduced a wireless broadband promotion for students. The operator offers 54GB of internet traffic for US$18.02 per month and modems starting from US$18.02.
Customers have 50GB of the traffic to be used at night. The ZTE MF668 and Huawei E182E modems are offered for US$18.02, and the Huawei E182E MIMO and Huawei E367 MIMO modems for US$36.41. The Huawei D100 and D105 routers cost US$47.44.
The service is offered on the HSPA+ network and requires a 15-month contract.
UKE opens consultation on frequency bands assignment (Poland)
UKE, Poland’s regulator has opened a public consultation on the use of the frequency bands 412-420 MHz and 422-430 MHz.
At the same time, UKE invited comments on assignment of the frequency bands 5925-6425 MHz. Comments may be submitted by 30 June.
Play launches new data devices (Poland)
Play has launched new devices in its offer: the BlackBerry 9780 Bold, 4G USB modem Huawei E353U-2 (prices range from US$0.36 to US$83.21 depending on commitment period and tariff option of Play Online), Nokia C2-01, Nokia C1-01 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 4G Ready.
In addition, the company offers the Play Online Box for the iPad 2, which is offered in the 5 GB, 15 GB or 35 GB option with a commitment of 24 or 36 months for prices ranging from US$363 to US$1,017.
