With mobile service providers charging its subscribers in ‘paise’ per minute, almost every second person owns one

Mobile phones which were once considered to be a status symbol, are becoming more affordable by the day. With mobile service providers charging its subscribers in ‘paise’ per minute to make a call, it has become a rarity to meet people who don’t use mobile phones.
Currently, Hutch has launched a new offer, charging ’30paise per minute’ on local Hutch-to-Hutch calls. This offer is the cheapest as compared to all mobile service providers within the city.
Harit Nagpal, Operations Director, Hutch-Mumbai said, “We have noticed that our subscribers in Mumbai make the most calls to Hutch numbers. Hence we have designed this plan such.”
This plan is valid for both pre-paid as well as post-paid customers. Customers can subscribe to this offer by paying a fixed sum of Rs 30 per month. In this offer, the subscriber is also entitled to 100 Hutch-to-Hutch local minutes free while any additional usage would be charged at 30paise per minute. Customers can activate this service by sending an SMS THIRTY to 6565. But there’s a treat for new customers who can enjoy this offer at zero monthly rental for first two months.
However, for pre-paid customers, this offer is not available on the Rs 99 and Rs 999 ‘Chalta Rahe’ plans. Although Hutch has the cheapest rates on offer, other service providers are not far behind. Said a Customer Care Executive, Sheila Das, “The lowest offer on hand for our customers, is 49 paise per minute for outgoing calls to all local numbers, BPL and otherwise. The post-paid customers have to pay a rental of Rs 475 to avail of this offer, while the pre-paid can select the refills. For post-paid customers, the first 100 BPL-to-BPL minutes are free.”
The lowest offer for Airtel customers is 50 paise per minute for outgoing calls to an Airtel number, as well as other local numbers. “This offer is on the Rs 222 refill. In this offer, the customer
can select five local non-Airtel numbers that will be charged 50 paise per minute,” said Ramesh Desai, a Customer Care Executive, at Airtel.
