Globe to sell Samsung Galaxy S III with unli data plans (Philippines)

Mobile operator Globe Telecom has announced that it will be selling Samsung’s latest device, the Galaxy SIII, along with its unlimited data plan. The company will begin taking pre-orders for the phone from May 23.

According to a report by Philippine Star, Globe subscribers can avail themselves of the Samsung Galaxy S III under My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo, which comes with unlimited mobile browsing, bonus call and text services, and choice of ‘unli boosters’ for the ultimate smartphone experience.

With Globe My Super Plan Unli Surf Combo, the country’s only customizable unlimited data plan, Globe provides users with uninterrupted surfing, their gadget of choice, and freebies all in one subscription. This plan also helps maximize the features of the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Globe My Super Plan subscribers can enjoy the new Direct Call feature with the different call freebies of their choice such as free call minutes, free international call minutes or unlimited calls to a Globe or TM number.

The Samsung Galaxy S III also comes with the Social Tag feature, which allows users to keep track of their loved ones easily. With its face recognition technology, family and friends are automatically tagged on the photos taken.

The feature also enables users to view social networking statuses of the friends they tagged in the photos. Social Tag is best enjoyed with Globe SuperSurf, which gives unlimited mobile internet access for an entire month.

Multitasking also comes true to form with the device’s Pop-up Play feature, which enables users to play a movie and continuously run it floating on the screen while browsing the Web or sending a text message or e-mail.

Globe subscribers can watch videos all they want with Globe SuperSurf, while they can enjoy sending free text messages with a Globe My Super Plan freebie.

The Galaxy S III is powered by Samsung’s own 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor, 4.8-inch Super HD AMOLED screen, 1GB RAM, an eight-megapixel rear camera and comes packed with the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android’s operating system.

Apple asks SK Telecom not to publish iPhone sales figures (South Korea)

South Korea’s SK Telecom has started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4 last week, and was publishing a counter of how many it was selling, until the tally was suddenly removed from its website.

It is reported that the company was ordered to stop publishing sales figures by Apple. The company had taken 28,000 orders in the first seven hours of sales on the 9th March before the sales figures were taken down. The company stated that it was required to consult with the maker before publicizing the number of preliminary orders.

As per sources, Apple is overly sensitive in announcing the updates of orders, insinuating that Apple had asked for the sales figures to be removed.

Part of the reason could be that initial sales figures may have actually been weaker than expected. It was hoped that sales would match the fever when the iPhone 4 was originally offered by rival operator, Korea Telecom, but fell far short of the 100,000 sales that were expected.

As per sources, it is evident that Apple took action because the performance of SK Telecom wasn’t satisfactory.

SK Telecom to start iPhone sales (South Korea)

SK Telecom is all set to enter iPhone Market this month. The company will start selling the Apple iPhone 4 from March 16 with pre-orders to begin from Wednesday. This will end KT’s exclusive distribution of iPhones in the country and signals mounting competition between the two leaders in the market.

SK Telecom will offer similar contracts for the iPhone as KT but will try to attract customers with better customer service. It will replace faulty handsets with new ones if defects are found within seven days of purchase  and any needed repairs will be done at SK Telecom’s own service center. It will also offer discounts for repair costs to loyal customers.

KT plans to fend off the challenge with its service know-how gained by selling iPhones over the past year.

Vodafone UK takes a shine to RIM’s Pearl

Vodafone has quietly begun offering Research in Motion’s BlackBerry Pearl email phone to new customers. The carrier is currently taking pre-orders for the handset on its UK website.

Pearl is RIM’s first device to offer media playback features and to focus more on consumers than executives. It’s got a 1.3 megapixel camera, quad-band GSM/GPRS reception, Bluetooth and the company’s push email offering. The QWERTY keyboard uses RIM’s SureType prediction system, and there’s a trackball control in place of the usual BlackBerry jogwheel.
