Kyocera Mako S4000 offered at $99.95 Page Plus Cellular
Page Plus Cellular, a prepaid cell phone service provider has added the Kyocera Mako S4000 to its offering. The current rate of the product is $99.95, sans any contracts signed.
The Clamshell shaped phone is not expected to impress many with its low set of features including, Bluetooth, VGA camera, WAPbrowser etc. It is targeted towards the first time phone buyers who do not require many features in their smartphone.
According to Page Plus, the company is all set to launch its own brand QWERTY keyboard handset within two months. The carrier at the same time reminded also that they are already offering one QWERTY device- LGenV.
Airtel customers in Sri Lanka to appoint doctor on mobile

E-Channelling PLC, a Colombo Stock Exchange listed e-commerce Company powers the service on Airtel and it also powers a similar service on competing telco Dialog Telecom.
e-Channelling provides a centralized doctor’s appointment booking system for Sri Lanka’s private healthcare industry, allowing patients to book and pay for appointments via the Internet, mobile, banks and ICT centers called Nenasala on a single dial-in number, 225.
Nawaloka, Asiri Hospitals, Durdans, Apollo, Oasis, Ninewells, Park, Golden Key Eye and ENT, Ceymed and Royal Hospital in Colombo and Southern Hospital in Galle are some of the hospitals connected to e-Channelling and the average cost of an appointment is around Rs. 750
Vodafone free SMS weekend a hit with the customers (Netherlands)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Free SMS weekend offered by Vodafone in Netherlands on 17 and 18 November emerged as an instant hit with the customers. The offer was given until Sunday noon after the speech network was hit by a nationwide breakdown.
9.00-11.00 am on Sunday, the SMS traffic was 2.3 times more than normal with most of the SMS sent by the prepaid customers. On Saturday night, between 10.00-11.00 pm, the traffic increased by almost 50 percent as the subscribed customers sent maximum number of texts.
Between 6.00-9.00 pm, during Sinterklaas evening, the traffic rose by 21 percent than normal.
Mobile internet recharge cards for Airtel prepaid subscribers (India)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Bharti Airtel launched two mobile internet recharge vouchers today available for Rs 26 (valid over seven days, usage of 15 MB) and Rs 95 (valid over 30 days, usage of 100 MB) for its Prepaid users in the National Capital Region.
This is a significant initiative in making mobile internet more affordable and empower the prepaid customers to control their usage.
“This initiative marks our strategic intent to drive affordability in mobile internet connectivity and add value for our Prepaid customers,” said Bharti Airtel’s CEO, Mobile Services, Delhi and NCR, Shashi Arora. She also stated that these vouchers would enable customers to enjoy mobile Internet at only Rs 95 and Rs 26 per 15 MB, resulting in savings of up to 80 per cent on current competitive tariffs.
KCC asks mobile operators to slash call charges (South Korea)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Choi See-joong, the Chairman of South Korean regulator, has reportedly asked mobile operators to lower call charges on the back of an OECD report highlighting the country as one of the world’s most expensive for mobile phone use .
As per his recommendations, a similar pledge by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to cut mobile rates by 20%. The regulator is considering a variety of methods to force rate reductions, including the banning of handset subsidies to promote cheaper call rates, expanding pre-paid tariffs and most notably allowing the introduction of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). However, all three telcos are not in favour of this. SK Telecom has claimed that government interference could have a negative effect on competitiveness in the wireless sector.
Idea launches STD pack for its prepaid subscribers (India)

The new pack allows its new and existing subscribers to make STD calls to all mobile and landline networks in the above states, at just 50 paisa per minute. The subscribers can avail this offer by purchasing tariff vouchers priced at Rs.26. This offer is valid upto first 300 minutes and after that the STD charges of the subscribers regular plan will be applied.
Bouygues adds 334,000 users in H1, revenue up 1%

French mobile operator Bouygues Telecom had a stable turnover, up 1 percent to EUR 2.175 billion in the first half, compared to EUR 2.144 billion in the year-earlier period. The figure excludes the effect of Bouygues Caraibes, sold in April 2006. Net network revenues were stable at EUR 2.029 billion. Excluding the fall in call termination rates, Bouygues Telecom’s turnover would have risen by 6 percent, the company said. Bouygues praised the success of its Neo plan, introduced on 1 March, and offering unlimited calls to all operators. |
| The plan helped Bouygues add 334,000 customers in the first half. The company had 8.305 million customers at the end of June, or 10 percent more than a year earlier. It said it still has the market’s largest proportion of prepaid customers, 70 percent. Bouygues Telecom sister company, the broadcaster TF1, had revenue up 8 percent to EUR 1.377 billion in the first half, compared to EUR 1.277 billion a year earlier.
