KPN and internet service provider Tiscali closed an agreement on 15 September in which KPN will acquire Tiscali Netherlands for EUR 255 million payable in cash at closing. With the acquisition of Tiscali, KPN’s market share in the retail market will increase to 44 percent, and increase of five percent. For Tiscali group the disposal of Tiscali Netherlands will generate a capital gain of EUR 180 million. The transaction is subject to completion of the consultation procedure with the relevant works councils and to the approval of the Dutch antitrust authorities. At the end of June 2006 Tiscali Netherlands had 276,000 DSL and 126,000 dial-up users. Including in the 276,000 broadband customers are 90.000 wholesale connections. Total revenue in the first six months was EUR 52.2 million and operating result was positive for EUR 9.7 million. Tiscali Netherlands has 276 employees. According to a spokesman of KPN, the company will keep the Tiscali brand.
