www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Verizon Wireless, USA’s leading mobile operator, is reportedly in talks with Apple to launch the iPhone in 2010. Verizon Wireless’ CEO, Ivan Seidenberg confirms Apple is likely introduce the iPhone for Verizon Wireless’ new LTE.
But at present Apple is working on implementing the iPhone platform on CDMA chipsets. It was earlier reported that Samsung had started buying chipsets from Infineon, which was said to be of the same quality as Qualcomm’s chipsets at a lower price. Infineon is also the exclusive provider of chipsets to the Apple iPhone. However, while Infineon offers 3G chipsets based on Qualcomm’s WCDMA technology (think UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA), the company does not offer CDMA chipsets.
In other words, if Apple should offer the iPhone for Verizon Wireless’ CDMA network, the company would have to work with Qualcomm. according to a media source it was reported that Qualcomm’s FLO TV mobile television division considers offering MediaFLO support for the iPhone, as an add-on. Given the media device the iPhone is, it is likely that Apple would choose a Qualcomm chipset with integrated MediaFLO support.
