Vodafone Qatar has already implemented a version of the platform, which is set to develop it by adding further m-commerce services such as mobile banking, mobile purchase and mobile marketing and advertising to enable Qtel subscribers to carry out payments and complete transactions via their mobile phones. The upgraded version of the platform is set to be released later in 2009. The service is being trialed an already mad available to selected first subscribers who have purchased Vodafone-Qatar monthly plans.

Mobile commerce spending is anticipated to reach CNY 170 million by 2011 in the region. The mobile shopping market growth is attributed to the increasing mobile phone internet user base, which reached 120 million in February, up 133 percent year-on-year.
Furthermore, e-commerce volume is predicted to reach CNY 2.51 trillion in 2009 and CNY 3.22 trillion in 2010, as compared to CNY 1.61 trillion in 2007. Motorola announced that the company has launched a mobile commerce solution for financial and retail merchandising needs.
The solution, according to the company, consisting of an M-Wallet and back-end management platform, has been deployed by Union Mobile Pay (UMPay), a mobile payment company established by China Mobile Communications Corp. (CMCC) and China UnionPay.
Motorola said that the fmobile commerce deployment in China marks a significant milestone in its global M-Commerce initiatives.
According to the company, Motorola’s M-Wallet solution provides enhanced user interface with secured and reliable service as compared to existing technologies based on Short Message Service (SMS), Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). Consumers can personalize financial needs such as account inquiries, money transfers, bill payments, utility payments and e-ticketing on their mobile phones, which will eliminate the need to go to banks or carry bank cards. In addition to mobile banking, the platform also provides business-to-consumer (B2C) solutions for merchants that include merchant membership cards, electronic couponing and prepaid cards.
In addition to the end-user mobile solutions for banking and merchandising needs, Motorola’s mobile commerce offering also includes a back-end management platform. The back-end management platform, part of the Motorola’s Service Delivery Framework called GAMA (Global Application Management Architecture), is interoperable with back-office network elements for OSS/BSS for mobile network operators, financial institutions and merchants, the company said.

Motorola (Malaysia-based mobile pones manufacturer) is in alliance with China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC), an agency operating under China’s Ministry of Commerce responsible for the development of electronic information projects. This new agreement was inked to instigate an m-commerce laboratory in Beijing. The laboratory will allow Motorola and its partners to develop the ecosystem and pre-integrate and validate the service prior to commercial deployments in China.
The mobile phones company have reported that the m-commerce laboratory is anticipated to interconnect industry, government and academia to facilitate certain aspects in the m-commerce environment such as research and commercialization of mobile applications, mobile payment and security, and enterprise mobile commerce application.
