China Mobile asks suppliers to submit informal bids for 3G roll out

Telegeography writes…China Securities News is reporting that China Mobile has asked equipment providers to submit informal bids for the supply of TD-SCDMA equipment. The bidding, which involves dozens of equipment suppliers, will identify providers for the Chinese company’s TD-SCDMA commercial network. China’s TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance disclosed that a number of foreign companies such as Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Ericsson and Siemens had joined the bidding through their China-based joint ventures.

Earlier reports revealed that the TD-SCDMA procurement tenders held by China Mobile, China Telecom and China Netcom will be worth CNY26.7 billion (USD3.45 billion). China Mobile is reported to be building commercial TD-SCDMA networks in eight cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Qinhuangdao and Xiamen.
