The list of bidders for the deal includes Oger Telecom, a telecom group controlled by the Saudi Oger Group, Qatar Telecommunications (Qtel) and Etisalat, the bankers close to the deal said. Confirmed bids are due by September 14 and a decision is expected later that month.

The subscribers will now pay 31 baisas per minute for local call and SMS at 78 baisa. “Since the UAE is one of the main roaming destinations for Oman Mobile customers, the company provides them with unmatched  rates,” a spokesman for the majority state-owned company said.

The company also announced a new offer for its pre-paid ‘Hayyak’ subscribers. The scheme dubbed as Hayyak Bonus’, will benefit subscribers by giving them 20% of the usage of their mobile originated calls, both video and voice, credited back to their account.

“This bonus amount will be credited in the subscriber’s bonus accounts.  Every Hayyak subscribers will have two accounts a main account which is used currently whenever subscribers make a top-up and a bonus account which will be utilised for the new offer,” a spokesman for Omantel said.  The offer lasts till 28th August.
