Alvarion, Relm Wireless Corporation, Cincinnati Bell and SunCom Wireless are among the latest companies to reveal their quarterly results. As a group, the companies’ results offer a mixed bag.
Alvarion reported revenue for the third quarter of $54 million, up 7 percent when compared to the prior quarter and 20 percent from a year ago. WiMAX accounted for one-third of the company’s revenue. Alvarion has more than 100 commercial deployments and 120 active WiMAX trials up and running. The company narrowed its net loss to $2 million, or 3 cents per share. In the prior quarter, Alvarion posted a net loss of $27.6 million, or 45 cents a share; and a net loss of $5.5 million, or 9 cents a share a year ago.
Relm Wireless Corporation posted a 20.7-percent increase in sales during the third quarter to $9.2 million, compared to $7.6 million in the year earlier period. Net income for the quarter came in at $1.1 million, or 8 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $1.2 million, or 9 cents per diluted share, for the same quarter last year. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, sales increased roughly 27.7 percent to $24.9 million.
Wireless and data growth gave
Cincinnati Bell a boost in the third quarter. The company recorded revenue of $320 million, operating income of $84 million and net income of $25 million, or 9 cents per share. In terms of its wireless business, the company ended the quarter with net postpaid wireless activations of 11,000, in the same quarter a year ago the company had 4,000 net activations.
SunCom Wireless Holdings announced third quarter roaming revenue of $23.5 million, up from $19.5 million in the second quarter of 2006. Average revenue per user (ARPU) increased 3.2 percent to $54.56 from $52.89 in previous quarter. The company announced the addition of 15,387 net subscribers on gross additions of 105,564. The company recorded monthly churn of 2.9 percent, up from 2.2 percent in the second quarter of 2006. The company attributes the increased churn to the planned decommissioning of SunCom’s domestic Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). SunCom was scheduled to detail its quarterly results during a conference call yesterday, but canceled it without plans to reschedule, according to the company.
