Tunisie Telecom CEO resigns (Tunisia)
Tunisie Telecom CEO, Raouf Chkir, has submitted his resignation from his post. Chekir had previously served among others as CEO of the National Broadcasting Corporation.
The resignation comes as the country continues the attempt to put itself back together after protests in January forced out the government and signaled a new era in Tunisia politics.
Nortel to offload its GSM Business
Nortel announced on wednesday that it is planning to sell off its GSM and GSM-R (GSM for railways) assets via an open auction process due to be held on November 9, 2009. The transaction will include GSM related patents and non-exclusive licenses to other relevant patents.
Subject to approval of the bidding procedures filed with the US and Canadian courts, qualifying bidders will need to submit offers for the assets by November 5, 2009.
Earlier in September, Avaya emerged as the winning bidder for Nortel’s corporate communications unit, with an offer of close to a billion dollars.
Earlier in August, the CEO and president of Nortel, Mike Zafirovski had announced his resignation effective immediately.
Sprint Nextel Chairman to Leave Company
Sprint Nextel Corp. announced that Tim Donahue was leaving as chairman of the struggling cellphone carrier, the company’s second departure of a top executive in six weeks.
The company did not name a replacement for Donahue, 57, who was chief executive of Nextel before it was acquired by Sprint last year for $35 billion.
A Sprint spokesman said that the resignation was voluntary and that it had been expected.
