Zagat expands reach to Apple’s iPad
Renowned restaurant guide publisher Zagat has released the ZAGAT TO GO app for iPad. The company has planned to drive revenue on Apple’s newest device via mobile advertising.
The universal app which costs $9.99 for new users offers access to Zagart’s succinct restaurant ratings and reviews that help diners make quick, informed decisions based on the collective opinions of thousands of avid diners. The existing ZAGAT TO GO for iPhone and iPod customers will receive free upgrade.
According to Ryan Charles, senior product manager at Zagat Survey, the company wanted to take advantage of the latest Apple technology and the opportunity to be the first restaurant review app to launch on this exciting new device. In his opinion, eating out has become an integral part of everyday life and the app has bee created to appeal to a wide demographic.
Waffle House launches 2-way SMS campaign
Waffle House, has successfully launched their 2-way SMS text marketing campaign in partnership with ‘Where 2 Get It’, a leading provider of mobile marketing and local search solutions for national brands.
The company has claimed that it has already seen 47 percent increase from January to February for opted-in subscribers.
According to Kelly Thrasher, a spokeswoman for Waffle House, Atlanta, GA, the strategy is to make it easier for customers on the go to find their closest Waffle House. It’s all about customer experience and accessibility.
All they need to do is to text the keyword WH and their ZIP code or city and state to short code LOCATE (562283) to find the closest restaurant.
In addition, the company is using send to phone from their corporate Web site store locator as well as a mobile locator.
Whenever a consumer will visit its Web site from an iPhone or BlackBerry it will automatically redirect them to a mobile locator.The mobile locator is made with the mobile consumer in mind so it displays the information in a handset-optimized format.
So far Waffle House has around 1,600 restaurants in 25 states and is known for making most of its advertisements through local grass roots efforts.
Orange Local – your own personal concierge service
Orange has launched a new tourist-friendly service for its users – Orange Local – which claims to be a personal concierge service, finding you everything from the nearest cash point to a place to eat with just a couple of clicks.
Orange Local offers a map of the area local to your mobile, with access to detailed information from over 2 million services and amenities in the UK, including restaurants, hotels, bars and cash points, plus more “dynamic” information such as traffic, travel and entertainment listings. There’s also maps of how to get to each place, plus photos so you recognise them when you get there.
The service is available to Orange World users on the ‘tools’ section of every handset.
