BSNL to launch new scheme for coastal districts
CUDDALORE: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will launch a new scheme for the benefit of telephone subscribers in the coastal districts shortly, said General Manager, BSNL, T Rajendran here on Thursday.Speaking to journalists, he said the BSNL would introduce Fixed Line Prepaid service for the landline subscribers. In the first phase, the connectivity will be provided to PCO operators. In the second phase, this will be extended to others in the district. The subscribers can recharge the fixed line prepaid link.
BSNL has slashed monthly rentals for Internet service, DIAS, from October 1 and henceforth it will collect Rs 300 instead of Rs 400 per month and Rs 500 instead of Rs 1,000 per month.
The BSNL will introduce a mobile van for collecting telephone bill amount in the district. The van will visit the rural region and collect the fees from the people.
Ragging incident sparks violence Kancheepuram: Students of the Government Law College in Kancheepuram clashed with the police following an incident of ragging on Thursday.
Sources said, a first-year student Ashok, son of Paneerselvam of Thirukazhugundram, was ragged by some senior students. Ashok had told his parents about this, following which Paneerselvam’s brother Anandan, a DMK functionary and four others had gone in a Tata Sumo van to the college. There, Ashok had identified the students who ragged him.
However, the students along with the others overpowered the gang and held them hostage in a room. On information, a police team from Chengalpet, led by DSP Soundarajan, rushed to the college. However, the students opposed the police entering the college.
After an altercation, the students hurled some furniture at the police in which Inspector Subramani was hurt. The students wanted college principal Gopal to direct the police to leave the campus.
The principal then requested the police to leave. After the police left, the students damaged the car in which Anandan and his supporters came. The students then freed the gang after getting a written undertaking from them that they would not complain to the police about the incident. Police confirmed that no case had been booked.
