As per the agreement, Warid will be offered new and upgraded version of software, technical support directly and online and onsite training for users from the Microsoft. It will also be provided with consulting services to deploy latest Microsoft technologies following the internationally proven best-practices.
Under the agreement, Microsoft will deliver different applications, servers and systems software to Warid for standardisation of its computers with Windows operating system, office applications and server-client management tools.

Chief Executive Officer of Warid, Muneer Farooqui said, “We believe in innovative, customer-centric and reasonably priced solutions that would create a niche for Warid and engrave its brand image into the hearts and minds of the people.”
The new package offers minimum call rates at Tk 0.29 per minute for Friends and Family numbers, off-peak rates of Tk 0.49 per minute for other numbers, peak rate Tk 0.59 per minute for Warid numbers and Tk 1.19 per minute for other operators.
Local SMS will be charged a minimum of Tk 0.29, while the maximum charge will be Tk 2.49 for international SMS.
The new and existing Warid subscribers can easily choose from any of the three options by SMS anytime, but they may not make more than one switch a day, said Abraham Kaikobad, senior manager, marketing, products and services.

“Our current base station count stands at around 1,750 which are deployed all over Bangladesh. Our investment made so far is around $600 million. Warid has paid over 6.5 billion taka as direct and indirect taxes to the national exchequer,” Warid Telecom’s chief executive Muneer Farooqui said.

SingTel currently holds significant stakes in six foreign mobile operators: India’s Bharti Airtel Ltd., Indonesia’s PT Telkomsel, Thailand’s Advanced Info Service PCL, Pakistan’s Warid Telecom, the Philippines’ Globe Telecom Inc. and Pacific Bangladesh Telecom.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the country’s mobile operators added 6.322 million subscribers on their network in 2008-09. As per latest statistics released by the telecom regulator, the total mobile subscriber base across the nation reached 94.342 million on the network of five operators. Accordingly, the subscribers’ base widened by 7.1% with teledensity touching 58.20.
Telenor ruled the market as it added the maximum subscribers of 2.767 million taking the total base to 20.893 million base, PTA data said. Zong has remained dominant in the market by capturing 2.435 million subscribers in the overall addition of subscribers. Its network has increased to 6.386 million by the end of 2008-09 followed by Warid, which attracted 2.39 million subscribers in the same period with the overall base stood at 17.886 million.
The PTA data says by June 2009, Mobilink was leading the market share with 29.136 million subscribers. Ufone’s base stood at 20 million in the same fiscal year.
The report unveils that the Pakistani mobile market has reached a saturation point so the operators have shifted their focus on to VAS to earn greater revenues.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The Ugandan mobile operators, MTN, Warid Telecom & UTL, as it was earlier anticipated, have raised their mobile tariffs. MTN announced a 9% increase in tariffs for callers on PayGo Standard, Yellomax, YelloGo, Yellopersecond, MTN LateChart and MTNZone.
This move was followed by a raise in tariff by Warid Telecom which launched a permanent tariff service named as Pakalast. “We have been very responsible not to over- burden Ugandans. The average increment is 9%,” he said. He said the rates of other services like Internet would remain unchanged. Zul Javaid, the Warid CEO, also cited increasing costs of operations to justify the increase.

“The cost of running the network has increased by much more than what we have passed onto the consumers,” Javaid argued.

According to Han Paulsen at UTL, the tariff have gone up by between 8-10% for calls to own network and other as well.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Warid Telecom has inked seperate deals with three International Gateway (IGW) operators – Mir Telecom, Bangla Trac Communications Limited and NovoTel for routing international calls to and from Warid network.
The agreements were signed complying to the ILDTS (International Long Distance Telecommunications Services) policy 2007 & directives of BTRC, which makes it mandatory for all mobile operators to establish a physical and logical interconnection with IGW operators for routing both international outgoing & incoming calls.
