MegaFon tests HSPA+ MIMO in Siberia (Russia)
MegaFon Siberia has stated that due to significant improvements in all of its infrastructure network, it greatly speed up data transmission services using the technology of HSPA +.
Single-threaded applications and Internet services (web surfing, watching Youtube, etc.) are now available in one flow rate to 5 Mbps (formerly of about 2 Mbps). The client software that supports working with multiple threads (P2P, Bittorrent, Flashget), will be able to use simultaneously more than 3 streams, substantially increasing the overall speed of downloads.
The operator also noted that in late April, his technicians began testing technology MIMO (Multiple Input – Multiple Output). Installing the base station transmitter allows an additional signal is divided into two parts, submitted in parallel to the modem user.
Thanks to the MIMO technology is already there is an opportunity to 2-fold increase in 3G-speed Internet to 28.8 Mbps, and even 42.2 Mbps. The emergence of MegaFon Modem E367 with support for MIMO technology is expected to be released this summer.
MTS boosts indoor connections in Siberia (Russia)
MTS has launched a distributed antenna system from Mobile Access in Siberia and the Far-East regions to boost its connection.
The system which is under the Voasis brand forms part of the national programme to improve indoor mobile connections.
One base station is able to serve several buildings over up to 20km. Novosibirsk-based retail and entertainment centre Aura has become the first site covered under the project. MTS earlier launched the system in St Petersburg, at Mega-Dybenko hypermarket.
MegaFon confirms Synterra integration plan (Russia)
Russian cellco MegaFon has announced details of its looming integration with fixed line operator Synterra, which it purchased in March 2010.
The first stage of the integration will take place in the North-West Federal District, where MegaFon’s existing operations are set to take up Synterra’s PeterStar unit. Next in order for integration are regional units in the Urals, Siberia and the South.
MegaFon has revealed that the ongoing integration process is unique in as much as Synterra and MegaFon’s existing markets rarely overlap, meaning the newly integrated portfolio will be able to make use of the infrastructure and spectrum belonging to both operators. As a result, the integrated company will boast a backbone network that is over 100,000 km long, in addition to extensive satellite infrastructure.
According to Konstantin Solodukhin, Deputy CEO of MegaFon’s long distance communications department, while working on the business model, the company has identified the long-term goals, not just for integration process. They have also defined the future for the entire integrated company: in two years we must become a universal telecommunications operator. Acquisition of the Synterra Group is the first and strategically essential step towards this major goal. Their integration will give them an opportunity to create a universal operator for providing a wide range of telecommunication services to any kind of customers.
Farimax withdraws claims against Telenor (Siberia)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Eighth Arbitrazh Appellate Court ruling has been cancelled by the Federal Arbitrazh (Business) Court of the West Siberian District, in Tyumen as it has been decided that Telenor East Invest liable for USD 1.73 billion in damages and terminated all proceedings as Farimex Products withdrew its claim against Telenor East Invest on 16 April.
Farimex filed a motion withdrawing its claim against Telenor East Invest and the other defendants in the hearing that took place on April 16. The motion was accepted by the court and a ruling was issued which cancelled the Omsk court’s ruling and terminating all proceedings in the case.
The withdrawal and dismissal of the Farimex case in Russia without any cost or loss to Telenor, is a condition to completion of the exchange offer that will combine Vimpelcom and Kyivstar in the new company VimpelCom Ltd. The company was launched on February 9.
Sibirtelecom completes DWDM roll out (Siberia)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The roll out of Digital Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology in Omsk, Novosibirsk and Novokuznetsk has been completed by Svyazinvest-owned regional operator Sibirtelecom.
By investing RUB111 million (USD3.76 million), the operator constructed a 161km of fibre-optic network. The entire work out is aimed at expanding network capacity and bandwidth availability.
The network had a data transmission capacity of 10Gbps and now it has gone up to 40Gbps after the upgrades. Russian vendor T8′s equipment has been used by Sibirtelecom for the network rollout.
Russian telco Svyazinvest aims for IPO in April 2011
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The structural reorganization of Russia’s state-run telecoms conglomerate Svyazinvest is scheduled to be completed by April 2011. The company also hopes to hold an initial public offering (IPO) to offload around 25% of the company.
Currently, Svyazinvest is combining long-distance operator Rostelecom with its seven ‘mega-regional’ operators to create a single, national network. The seven operators include Center Telecom, North-West Telecom, Volga Telecom, South Telecom, Uralsvyazinform, Siberia Telecom (Sibirtelecom) and Far East Telecom (Dalnevostochnaya)
MegaFon to launch mobile network in Alati
Russian national operator MegaFon will launch a network in the Altai territory of Russia in early 2007.
At launch, the network will cover Biysk and Rubtsovsk, Belokurikha, Smolenskoye, Kamen-na-Obi, Zarinsk, Aleisk and the motor road connecting Novosibirsk and Barnaul.
Subscribers will be able to choose the ‘Edinyi’ tariff, which offers per-second billing, free VoIP calls within the MegaFon-Siberia network, 1.50 RUB calls to both mobile and fixed numbers in the MegaFon-Siberia network, and no monthly fee.
