Turkey’s newspaper Hurriyet and telecommunications services provider IDT Europe have recently signed a cooperation agreement for a SIM-only prepaid mobile phone service called Hurriyet Mobil for the Turkish community living in Europe, beginning in the Netherlands. The service will be available wherever the Hurriyet newspaper is sold in the Netherlands. It will be supported by a marketing campaign that will include television, Turkish language print and point of purchase displays. The Hurriyet Mobil service is designed to appeal to the almost 400,000 Turks living in Holland. Plans call for the service to develop information and content services for Turks living in Holland that will be provided in the Turkish language. Calls to Turkey are EUR 0.17 per minute to landlines and EUR 0.22 per minute to mobile phones. National calls are EUR 0.23 per minute, and SMS text messages are EUR 0.10 per message. The service goes up against a number of other MVNOs competing for the immigrant market in the Netherlands, including KPN’s Al Yildiz mobile service, also aimed at the Turkish market in Holland, Belgium and Germany.
