Ucell inks bilateral agreement with Smart Mobile and Telecom New Zealand (Uzbekistan)

Uzbekistan-based mobile services provider Ucell has added new roaming partners. Ucell has signed a bilateral agreement with Latelz in Cambodia (Smart Mobile) and Telecom New Zealand.

The company will now allow prepaid users to roam on the Viva network in Kuwait, on Qtel’s network in Qatar and on Telekom Deutschland’s network in Germany.

Moreover, Ucell added Telecel in Bolivia as a GPRS and 3G roaming partner.

 

Smart Mobile soon to offer WiMAX services (Cambodia)

Smart Mobile Cambodia’s CEO Thomas Hundt has announced that it is in the testing phase for its planned WiMAX network. The company plans to launch the service in Phnom Penh at the end of the first or beginning of the second quarter.

According to Hundt, Smart held its first live test of the system during the ASEAN Tourism Forum on Koh Pich last week, with excellent results.

The WiMAX service will also be launched in Siem Reap and Battambang in the near future he added. The company has no plans to offer WiMAX capable mobile phones and will be selling the service as an alternative to fixed internet service providers.

Smart Mobile and Star-Cell merge their operations in Cambodia (Asia)

Smart in talks to merge with Star-Cell: Reports

Smart Mobile, Cambodian wireless operator is reportedly in talks with rival Applifone (Star-Cell) concerning a proposed merger between the two companies
