www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Indonesian telcos Mobile-8 Telecom and Smart Telecom have joined hands to work under a new brand name SmartFren. Mobile-8 Telecom currently markets its services under the banner Fren. The signing of the agreement between the two companies has been confirmed by Mobile-8 corporate secretary Chris Taufik in an Indonesia Stock Exchange transparency report.

Cost efficiency in each entity in several joint activities including promotions has been one of the considerations for the cooperation agreement between the two firms and both the companies are hopeful that their subscribers’ base will double by the end of this year as a result of this tie-up.

Mobile-8 had three million subscribers as at December 31, 2010, compared to 2.5 million subscribers for Smart Telecom.
