Sony Ericsson adds QWERTY keyboard to Vivaz Phone

Smartphone prices deducted by Nokia
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The phone prices have been cut by Nokia across its portfolio by up to 10%, putting its cheapest smartphones on a collision course with mid-range phones from rivals Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
According to Nokia, price changes were part of its normal, ongoing business as the company usually cuts prices across its portfolio a few times each year.
After the price cut Nokia’s cheapest smartphone model, the 5230, costs around EUR 170 in Finland and the model’s wholesale price is now below EUR 120.
Vodafone’s DRM-free music service a hit
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: After attracting almost half-a-million paying subscribers to its DRM-free services since March 2009, Vodafone has claimed to rule Europe’s mobile music market. The clear pricing policy of the carrier has been credited behind the subscription of 450,000 users for its music services.
A monthly bundle allowing the users to download 10 tracks, or a variety of all-you-can-eat packages has been provided to the subscribers. Some 100,000 subscribers have signed up in December alone in Vodafone’s eight key European markets Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.
The company has signed deals with Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Music, and Universal Music, to provide DRM-free MP3 content.
Apple and RIM sued by Kodak over Imaging Patents
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Lawsuits have been filed against Apple and Research In Motion in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) by Eastman Kodak, alleging the infringement of Kodak digital imaging technology. The company has claimed that its patent covering technology related to a method for previewing images has been infringed by Apple’s iPhones and RIM’s camera-enabled BlackBerry devices.
According to Laura G. Quatela, Chief Intellectual Property Officer, and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company, the company was bound to take this action as the discussions with both Apple and RIM had been carried out for years to resolve this issue amicably, but no satisfactory agreement was reached.
In the complaint, limited exclusion order preventing the importation of infringing devices, including certain mobile telephones and wireless communication devices featuring digital cameras is sought by Kodak.

IMImobile to provide music service to Irish operator Meteor
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Irish operator Meteor has selected DaVinci platform of India based IMImobile to power its full track music download service. The service will offer subscribers with 1.4 million DRM free tracks across PCs
and mobile handsets besides allowing them to share music across any device.
The music library is made from 2,000 independent labels, Sony BMG, EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. The service is compatible with 1,500 handsets and will be available immediately.
According to Director of advanced product development at Meteor, Elaine Robinson, the new service will allow the subscribers to first to listen to music on the devices and will be charged only once.
The deal is also very significant for IMI based in India and expanding its roots aggressively in Europe since past 12 months. According to the head of IMImobile Europe, Anu Shah, the company is looking forward to work with Meteors and provide them with outstanding service.
