Swedish telco Telia upgrades LTE network
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: For delivering speeds of 100Mbps in the city of central Stockholm, the mobile broadband base stations have been upgraded by Swedish mobile operator Telia. Upgradation process of the rest of its LTE base stations will begin this spring.
The upgradation will help the customers to access the web with practical speeds of up to 80 Mbps. Currently, central parts of Stockholm, as well as Stockholm’s districts Alvsjo, Kista and Hammarby Sjostad is covered by Telia’s LTE network. Launch of LTE in 25 locations in Sweden are also on Telia’s cards.
In the third quarter, LTE network will be expanded to Lund, Vasteras, Malma, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Linkoping. Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks deliver Telia’s LTE network.
LTE and WiMAX deployments to go together in 2010
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: December 2009 witnessed the launch of first commercial LTE network by TeliaSonera at Stockholm and Oslo and 2010 will see the continuation of the trend with commercial launch of several LTE networks, including large operators such as Verizon Wireless in the United States and NTT DoCoMo in Japan.
As LTE deployments begin to pick up pace, WiMAX continues its steady progress. Several operators, including Sprint in the United States, have chosen to go with WiMAX as their 4G network of choice.
According to ABI Research analyst Bhavya Khanna, while LTE does promise data speeds greater than 50Mbps, they have yet to be achieved by live or trial networks, whereas mobile WiMAX is now a tried and tested standard. ABI research 242 WiMAX, compared to only 38 for LTE.
Huawei to deploy LTE network for Tele2 and Telenor Sweden
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: For the supply and deployment of network equipment and modems for the launch of so-called ’4G’ Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband services, Net4Mobility, a joint venture of Tele2 Sweden and the Swedish unit of Norway’s Telenor has contracted Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies.
The goal of the venture is to make LTE available to 99% of the Swedish population by the end of 2013. 30%-50% increase in 2G GSM voice traffic, with enhanced indoor and outdoor coverage across the country as a result is also the reason behind increasing the number of base stations.
Earlier, LTE data services were commercially launched in Stockholm by TeliaSonera Sweden.
Sweden to fly high on 4G service
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: When half of the world is still struggling to provide 3G services to its people, Sweden, is ready fly high on the 4G services. TeliaSonera, Sweden’s leading telecom operator, announced the launch of its commercial LTE services, a fourth generation mobile technology offering blazing fast Internet access to wireless devices.
LTE provides a data speed of 100Mbits/second which is 10 times faster than existing 3G services. Currently the service is available in Swiss capital Stockholm, Oslo, the Nordic capital and will expand to over 25 cities over the course of 2010. The targets of the service are the users of data extensive applications like live video streaming, video conferencing and online gaming.
Since most of the devices are not compatible with LTE, which is currently poorly supported in terms of hardware availability, the initial costumers will have to face the trouble. To deal with the problem, TeliaSonera, has decided to provide special 4G modems to the users in order to use their devices whilst they are under 4G coverage.
Currently, the service is accessible only through the aforementioned 4G modem.
TeliaSonera: Xfera Renews Its National 2G-Roaming Agreement with Vodafone
STOCKHOLM, Sweden–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 19, 2006–TeliaSonera’s newly established mobile operator in Spain, Xfera, has today reached an agreement with Vodafone, renewing the terms and conditions of the previous roaming agreement signed by Xfera and Vodafone in 2001. The agreed conditions provide for full national roaming in Vodafone’s Spanish 2G-network.

By combining the excellent quality and nationwide coverage of Vodafone’s network and the high capacity of Xfera’s network, we will be able to offer the customers in Spain seamless services across networks,” says Kenneth Karlberg, President of TeliaSonera Norway, Denmark, the Baltic countries and Spain.
The agreement is a key element to Xfera’s launch of its commercial offerings before the end of the year. Xfera will offer nationwide coverage based on the combination of Xfera’s own 3G-network, currently being rolled-out according to license requirements, and the roaming agreement concluded with Vodafone.
