SingTel said to be one of 5 telcos competing for China Telecom stake

SingTel is said to be one of five telcos competing for a stake in China Telecom.

China’s largest fixed-line operator was reported to also be in talks with Japan’s NTT DoCoMo.

When contacted by Channel NewsAsia, a spokesperson said SingTel remains interested in the Asia Pacific region.

She added that it is SingTel’s policy not to comment on market speculation.

A Bloomberg report said China Telecom is looking for strategic investors to enter the mobile-phone business.

It is also said to be in discussions with France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom and Verizon Communications. – CNA/ms
