www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Further to the announcement on 13 May 2009, Vodafone Group announces that Vodafone-Panafon Hellenic Telecommunications Company S.A. has entered into a strategic partnership with DSL provider, Hellas Online Electronic Communications S.A.. Vodafone Greece will acquire an 18.5% equity interest in HOL and in exchange Vodafone Greece will contribute its existing fixed line DSL assets into HOL’s business. Vodafone Greece and HOL will jointly market Vodafone’s mobile products and services and HOL’s fixed line DSL and telephony services on an exclusive basis.

HOL is one of the leading DSL providers in Greece and had 215,000 customers at 30 June 2009, giving it a market share of approximately 26%. HOL also has the largest fibre optic network in Greece, amongst alternative providers, spanning more than 4,000 km and covering around 75% of the population. HOL is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation on 31 July 2009 of €251m.

Due to regulatory approval and commercial implementation, the transaction is not expected to complete until the fourth quarter of Vodafone Greece’s financial year.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Vodafone Greece has introduced mobile broadband services based on HSPA+ technology, providing theoretical maximum speeds of 21.6Mbps (download) and 5.7Mbps (upload). The operator claims that they are first in the Greek market to launch such services.

According to the press release, HSPA+ services are initially available in selected parts of Athens, exclusively to users of the Vodafone AAi4505 USB stick wireless modem, with expansion to other areas to be announced at a later, unspecified date.

Vodafone Greece announces the launch of the most advanced mobile broadband services in Greece and among the first in Europe, using HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) with theoretical peak speeds of 21.6 Mbps (download) and 5.7 Mbps (upload).

New upgraded services will initially be provided in selected areas of Athens, which will be continuously expanded.

Vodafone Mobile Broadband subscribers shall enjoy new high speeds via the exclusive new USB stick Vodafone ?4505, available in its commercial network as of Wednesday July 8th, in limited quantities.

Vodafone Greece, which constantly upgrades its networks, is playing a leading role in developing mobile broadband services. Earlier this year Vodafone Greece was the first and still is the only company in Greece to offer its customers mobile broadband speeds of a peak theoretical rate of 14.4 Mbps (download) and 2 Mbps (upload), through its upgraded HSPA network and the exclusive USB stick ONDA MV815UP.

Vodafone Greece, true to its commitment to provide its customers with quality services, offers actual mobile broadband speeds, which are considerably higher than those offered elsewhere in the market. Priced at EUR 18 per month, the package offers national rates for outgoing calls from EU to Vodafone networks in 11 countries in the EU as well as for international calls from Greece to EU networks. Moreover, receiving calls in Vodafone networks is free.  Vodafone Europe Data is priced at EUR 70 per month and offers 1 GB of data transfer in Greece and 11 Vodafone networks in EU. The 11 Vodafone networks where the two services can be used include Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, and Spain.

Unlike the previous volume-based plans, the new tariffs are based on the amount of time a user is connected to the Vodafone network. Priced at EUR 20, VMB Time 30 includes 30 hours of usage per month, an hourly charge of EUR 2 for over-the-limit traffic, SMS to Greek mobile phones for EUR 0.1071 per unit and SMS to foreign networks for EUR 0.2023. VMB Time 100 and VMB Unlimited are priced at EUR 30 and EUR 49, respectively. The former comes with a monthly usage of 100 hours (EUR 2 for over-the-limit traffic), whereas the latter offers unlimited traffic.

Also priced at EUR 5, Vodafone 500 minutes to VF offer 500 minutes of national calls and on-net video-calls. Both packages can be activated between 23 May and 23 June and come with a 30-day minimum duration.

As per the plan, Vodafone Greece would acquire a minority stake in HOL in exchange for its existing DSL operations.
