Telstra to provide telecommunications services and support to Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure

Around 300 of Oprah’s viewers and production crew will soon be using the Telstra Next Gâ„¢ network to connect with friends and family while in Australia next month under a partnership announced today.

Telstra Chief Marketing Officer, Kate McKenzie, said Telstra was proud to partner with The Oprah Winfrey Show” during their visit to visit to Australia and will be providing:

  • Telstra Next G network connections to power the Motorola Defy Smartphone for the viewers being flown to Australia for the show;
  • Telstra Mobile Broadband Ultimate USB modems for Oprah” show  field producers , delivering her team high-speed internet access on the world’s fastest national mobile broadband service;
  • Network support during two live shows at the Sydney Opera House on 14 December.

Ms McKenzie said Telstra was an ideal partner for Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure” given Telstra’s Next Gâ„¢ network is the world’s largest and fastest national 3G network, covering more than 2.1 million square kilometres and 99 per cent of the Australian population.

Telstra’s people will help the project too with a small team of Telstra Next G Angels set to assist Oprah” show audience members and crew by answering their technology questions and providing tech support during the set up of the shows.”

Partners and sponsors of Oprah’s Ultimate Australian Adventure” include Tourism Australia, Qantas Airways, Chevrolet, Motorola, American Express and Telstra.  The “Oprah” show Australian television affiliate and partner is Network Ten.

TE & Vodafone Egypt ink wholesale services deal

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Telecom Egypt and Vodafone Egypt have inked an agreement for the provision of wholesale telecommunications services.with immediate effect and is expected to represent a total value for TE of approximately EGP 4 billion over the next three years.The deal entails two distinct elements, using TE international gateway services to transit all Vodafone incoming and outgoing international traffic, plus relying on TE’s domestic network for all Vodafone infrastructure leasing needs.

MVNO deal signed by Tele2 in Germany

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement has been signed between Tele2 Telecommunications Services GmbH and VIAG Interkom in Germany as per which Tele2 will use Interkom’s wireless network to provide the air interface for Tele2′s fixed line customers.

With over 1 million residential and business fixed telephony customers, Tele2 is one of Germany’s largest Indirect Access Operators.

According to Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, President and CEO of Tele2 AB, Germany is the largest telecoms market in Europe and this MVNO will enable Tele2 to offer an attractively priced offering of both fixed and mobile services on one bill to its customers.

The MVNO is expected to be operational in Q2 2002.
