APEK says Telekom soon to share fibre (Slovenia)
The majority state-owned telecoms incumbent, Telekom Slovenije, will soon be forced to allow other operators to lease its fibre-optic network in accordance with a forthcoming decision by the sector regulator, the Agency for Post and Telecommunications (APEK).
The information was disclosed by the acting director of APEK, Miha Kriselj.
T-2 forced to begin debt settlement (Slovenia)
The Municipal Court in Maribor has reportedly begun forced debt settling proceedings over alternative Slovenian telco T-2, with creditors given a month, until 14 February 2011, to submit their claims.
T-2 is legally bound to pay an advance for costs of forced debt settling in the amount of US$44,000 within 15 days of receiving the court’s ruling, otherwise the court will announce the start of bankruptcy proceedings. T-2′s creditors include incumbent telco Telekom Slovenije.
Telekom Slovenije suffers loss in Q1
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The operating revenue of the Slovenian communications group Telekom Slovenije grew by 3% to EUR203.4 million (USD249.6 million) for the first quarter of 2010, including its subsidiaries across southeast Europe.
The EBITDA went down 7% to EUR65.3 million and net income dipped from EUR14.1 million in Q1 2009 to EUR600, 000 in the three months to March 31, 2010. The number of retail fixed broadband connections was up 5,193 on the end of 2009, at 326,000. Even the number of wholesale high speed lines stood at 100,000, an increase of 1% quarter-on-quarter.
2% fall in the consolidated number of mobile and fixed telephony subscribers has also been reported in the consolidated number of mobile and fixed telephony subscribers. According to the company, its Kosovan unit, IPKO’s mobile user total fell by 37,083 to 494,647 in January-March.
Telekom Slovenije’s deal to be reviewed by minister
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: In order to clarify ‘suspected irregularities’ in the recent share purchases of Macedonia’s Cosmofon and Kosovo’s Ipko by Telekom Slovenije, Slovenian economy minister Matej Lahovnik has proposed to review the merger.
According to Matej, if the incumbent telco’s supervisory board members did not launch a review, the state in its capacity as a majority shareholder would propose an inquiry into the matter at a meeting of Telekom’s shareholders.
He also feels that it is important check the legitimacy of the acquisition of shares of individual minority shareholders,
No bankruptcy for T-2 (Slovenia)
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Slovenian alternative telco T-2′s bankruptcy has been terminated by the District Court in Maribor after the withdrawal of the proposal for the start of bankruptcy proceedings.
The decision was taken even after incumbent telco Telekom Slovenije and Lokainvest announced to participate in the proceedings as the proposal was automatically withdrawn by these two creditors.
Telekom Slovenije, Tok receive WiMAX licenses
Telekom Slovenije and Tok Telekomunikacije have been awarded wireless broadband licences. The Slovenian market regulator APEK said Telekom Slovenije had offered SIT 100 million for the licence, while Tok offered SIT 40 million. The licences were awarded for ten years and cover the whole of Slovenia. To date, Telekom Slovenije had the only WiMAX licence in the country, granted in 2002, which covered only the capital Ljubljana. Telekom Slovenije said it will invest SIT 3 billion over the next three years in an effort to cover 60 percent of the population with its WiMAX network.
