3 Denmark gets largest spectrum in 2.5GHz auction
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: The main bidding in 2.5GHz spectrum auction has been completed by Denmark which is suitable for LTE. 2×10 MHz paired spectrum and 25 MHz unpaired spectrum has been awarded to 3 Denmark in the 2.5GHz frequency band during the LTE auction organized by the local regulator.
According to the operator, it expects to begin the roll-out of an LTE network in the 2.5GHz frequency range at the end of this year. 2×20 MHz paired spectrum has been awarded to the Danish mobile operator TDC in the same auction and 2×20 MHz paired spectrum and 10 MHz unpaired spectrum has been given to Telenor Denmark and Telia Denmark respectively.
Telenor expects to start testing LTE this summer already. Operators will be allowed to name their preferences for specific places in the band after the final round of the bidding and the exact awards and prices for the licenses will be announced by the regulator.
Telenor Denmark contracts Huawei for mobile backhaul
www.WirelessFederation.com/news: Telenor Denmark has signed a contract with Chinese telecoms equipment vendor Huawei Technologies for the rollout of a mobile backhaul commercial network. Telenor would be able to smoothly modernize the network to Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology after the deployment of the IEEE 1588v2 standard.
According to Lars Rude Andersen, CTO of Telenor Denmark, the company is glad to work with Huawei in the Mobile Backhaul field and it is confident that Huawei’s advanced PTN solution will enable the customer to enjoy faster and higher quality mobile services from Telenor.
Telenor entered the Danish market with the acquisition of a 53.5% stake in Sonofon in 2000, purchasing the remaining shares from US-based BellSouth in December 2003.
Sonofon & Cybercity to be named Telenor Denmark
www.WirelessFederaion.com/news: Danish mobile operator Sonofon and broadband company Cybercity will now be named as Telenor Denmark from today (15 June) in line with their parent company Nordic telecoms group Telenor. The move aims to simplify the services provided in Denmark by the Telenor group and will not affect its Danish subsidiaries’ existing customers. The telcos posted a subscriber base of 1.83 million b 31st March’09, whereas sister company Cybercity had a total of 289,000 broadband subscribers at the same date.
