BSNL moots expansion drive in three cities
VISAKHAPATNAM: The BSNL has plans to extend its services to every nook and corner of the State by giving more land line and CellOne connections and broadband connections, said BSNL chief general manager Rajesh Kumar Arnold.The schemes introduced in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada were part of the BSNL’s expansion drive, aimed at asserting itself in the highly competitive telecommunications sector.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Arnold said that BSNL Visakhapatnam Telecom District (VTD) has 28 telephone exchanges in urban and 68 in rural areas, besides 25 customer service centres in the district.
By fixing up new services in rural and urban areas, the BSNL would expand its services to 20 more telephone exchanges, 18 new MLLN stations, 15 cell-towers and broadband equipment in three areas, he said and added that an optical fibre cable scheme, which cover about 6,000 km distance, would be planned.
Talking about new schemes, Arnold said that the BSNL has chosen three urban cities for the new schemes effective from Oct 1.
It has also planned reduction of rental charges for Sulabh, Centrex-100 and bundling of handset with Nokia and Motorola.
VTD general manager P Nagaraju, outgoing general manager J Ganta and others were present.
