Kcell  has introduced a new SMS service dubbed Twitter SMS service. The service allows users to tweet via SMS and receive tweets from selected friends.

Sending an SMS to the service is priced at US$0.04 while receiving SMS messages is free.

Kar-Tel, working under the Beeline Kazakhstan brand has launched the free SMS alerts from Twitter for subscribers. The cost of sending a message to Twitter is US$0.04.

Vodafone Czech Republic in partnership with the server DSL.cz is offering an application with which customers can view a map with data on real speeds of mobile connection.

The application is designed for Android OS phones.

The application is available for free on the Android Market. The results of speed measurement can be shared on Facebook and Twitter. The application runs on Google Maps.

Si.mobil launches Nokia E7 in Slovenia

Slovenia’s Si.mobil is all set to launch Nokia E7 smartphone to the national market.

Nokia E7 is a Business Smartphone based on Symbian 3 Operating System and comes with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync preloaded, providing direct, secure access to corporate web mail and other personal applications.

The Nokia E7 boasts a 10.2-cm touchscreen with Nokia ClearBlack technology for improved visibility in outdoor environments and a full keyboard. Users can access business e-mail in real time with Mail for Exchange, with no extra costs or additional hardware, as well as receive e-mails directly from Hotmail, Yahoo!, Gmail, Ovi and other accounts. The phone also supports live updates from Facebook and Twitter, an 8 megapixel camera with HD video and GPS.

Samsung has announced that its own Apps Store has passed over 100 million apps download mark since its service began with the Samsung Wave smartphone in June 2010.

The company set up the Samsung Apps website to offer people software applications aimed at TVs and mobile devices such as Facebook and Twitter. According to the company, the website gauged 10 million downloads three months after the website launched and 100 million in 10 months. Over 13,000 applications are now available on the marketplace.

The most downloaded apps on the platform include Magic Torch, Need for Speed Shift and Asphalt 5. Transportation and navigation apps – such as London Traffic and Ndrive France – are also popular downloads.

The most popular apps also reflect cultural characteristics; recipe and wine apps are popular in France, Germans love football related apps and Italians are fans of film information apps. France had the highest number of downloads, followed by Germany and Spain.

These three countries accounted for 40% of all downloads made from the store.

Qik launches video apps for iPhone

Qik, a mobile video streaming platform has introduced an iPhone app, named Qik Video Connect.

The service intends to allow a person to stay connected with friends and family through video calling, video messaging and video sharing.

With the Qik Video Connect, users can instantly share the latest happening with their contacts through a live video call. If they are not able to connect live, users can send a video mail. Customers can also post live video links to Facebook and Twitter.

The social video feed allows users to follow what friends are doing by receiving alerts when new videos are shared and watching those videos directly on their mobile phone. The application is available in two options, Qik Video Connect and Qik Video Connect Plus.

The Plus option is available for US$2.99 and offers additional features such as real-time effects, video editing, and HD quality. Both the Qik Video Connect and Connect Plus apps enable live video chat over 3G or Wi-Fi between iPhones, iPod Touches with built-in cameras. Both apps are available for download at the Apple App store for iPhone and 4 generation iPod Touch models with iOS 4 or later.

­Jawbone, a headset manufacturer has secured US$49 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz. The funding brings total investment to date in Jawbone close to $100 million.

According to Ben Horowitz, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, Jawbone builds a family of products that take smartphones and tablet computers and brings them to life. Hosain Rahman is the clear thought leader in his industry and makes Jawbone the easy investment choice for them in this market.

Jawbone first made its mark in the industry by creating an entirely new class of Bluetooth headsets. Its Jawbone ICON was the first to add NoiseAssasin technology and the recently-launched Jawbone ERA is the first to include HD audio and motion sensors.

Andreessen Horowitz has made similarly-sized investments in companies including Facebook, Groupon, Twitter and Skype.

Dwolla, an online, mobile and social payments platform has released ‘Dwolla Spots’.

Dwolla Spots will help users in completing a retail transaction with their mobile phone via their physical location. The application will focus on proximity-based interactions and feature a scroll Spots map that will allow users to choose a location, engage in a transaction, and complete a mobile payments purchase, through their mobile phones. Merchants can use a Dwolla compliant platform such as iOS, Android or Windows 7 device to confirm a transaction.

Integration within web-based applications and point-of-sale systems are also possible, with upgrades to both platforms coming later this summer. Businesses and vendors receive the Dwolla funds in real-time.

Dwolla Spots will provide users access to their linked social networks’ contacts, providing users a way to send and receive money with anyone in their Facebook or Twitter communities. Users will have the option of sharing their payment activity with businesses or friends on their linked Twitter or Facebook accounts.

Dwolla Spots is available for Apple iOS in the App Store free of charge. Updates to the currently existing Android and Windows 7 applications will be released later this spring.
